Tip for drivers: Drive all the way to the top. There are car parks there too, and avoid trekking up. No entry charges except for the parking.

A great destination. Actually there is public parking at the top. The ascent on foot is sporty but doable. The castle complex is completely preserved and worth seeing. View over Würzburg is great. The best you do not have to pay anything.

from the Alte Mainbruecke you get beautiful views up to Marienburg Fortress, especially at night when it is dramatically illuminated. Drive up there with your car, park it, walk around the grounds it is very impressive.

The climb is a cardiac experience, but worth it in the end. We didn’t enter any of the buildings, but there was plenty to see and to be amazed at.

When we visited the fortress we walked through the side streets. Yes, there are steps and it is a little challenging but if you take your time it is certainly worth the visit. Reasonably priced as well for entry. We visited... More

Climbing the hill is a lot of work, maybe better to catch a bus or taxi uphill and walk back to town downhill.

This answer may be a little late however, I cannot remember the cost of entry but it is not that expensive maybe 10 - 12 euros. We walked up and found it strenuous but the views were wonderful. I think the town generally... More
