About
The Wall Museum Berlin is located just next to the famous East Side Gallery Berlin - the last remaining piece of the Berlin Wall in the city centre of Berlin. The innovative multimedia Wall Museum presents Berlin’s recent history in a unique and enthralling way. From the beginning of the Cold War in 1945 until Reunification and via the dramatic building of the Berlin Wall in 1961, history is brought to life in 13 themed rooms using various original film documents and interviews. It is a must for all who want to discover the truth behind the Wall and how it changed this exceptional city. Walking along the East Side Gallery after visiting the Wall Museum gives you a completly new look at this monument and the art it shows.

Top ways to experience The Wall Museum
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Friedrichshain
When you arrive at Warschauer Strasse in the heart of the district, you have found one of Berlin’s party hotspots. At night in Friedrichshain, the energy is palpable and the streets of this old worker's quarter are full of street musicians. On one hand, you may find a bar with international crowds, electronic music, long lines and panoramic views - on the other, an outside venue by old train yards featuring decrepit buildings and live alternative music. No matter your taste, the best way to end a night out in Friedrichshain is sitting by the Spree River at the East side gallery, the longest and best preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, watching the sun rise over the beautiful Oberbaum Bridge.
How to get there
  • Schlesisches Tor • 5 min walk
  • Warschauer Straße • 5 min walk

A surprise
Feb 2020 • Friends
To be honest, we popped in looking for a toilet before walking along the Eastside Gallery; however we thankfully decided to do the museum...so glad we did! As a teenager in yorkshire in the 80's i was 'aware' of the Berlin Wall, i remember news reports people being shot trying to get across...but what it was/represented etc passed me by. I thanks to the museum, now understand so much more and there were some emotional moments. Highly recommend.

Nothing special
Dec 2019 • Family
No original content to call this a museum. Mostly TV screens showing TV clips and content that is available on the Net and mannequins wearing not too authentic military uniforms. Ticket price is expensive and experience does not justify the expenditure. You are better off visiting the museum island where you get to see visit 5 museums for combined ticket price less than the Berlin Wall museum.

We visited the Wall Museum today, a truly enlightening experience. As we entered at first we wondered what was going on, but it really was powerful. So so interesting what an amazing man Michal Gorbachov was. I would thoroughly recommend this.

Very interesting museum, lots to see. Very informative. Spent an hour an a half plus wondering round and taking in all the information. Very sobering to think of all of those who lost their lives in the search for freedom. Would highly recommend a visit (not if you have little ones as there's lots of reading to be done).

Loved all the history at this museum, very well, put together, we could have spent the whole day there, right across from CheckPoint Charlie, well worth your time.

This museum is great! It’s informative and done using multi media making it a really immersive experience. It was great to have a mix of film, photos & reading to get a good understanding of the history of the wall. Definitely worth a visit!

OK overview
Oct 2019 • Solo
An OK overview of the rise and fall of the Berlin wall. What I missed was more video material of the actual fall of the wall, there must be plenty of it.
