I wasn't really sure what to do with myself on a very short trip to Berlin and heard about this free walking tour. Our tour guide Lizzy was more than knowledgeable on the history and the area, she was enthusiastic and captivating. She told us all the history, but was also able to answer many of the groups questions. Whilst... More

We did the Sachsenhausen memorial tour led by Rob. Having done many Sandemans tours in the past I had high expectations and these were easily exceeded by Rob. His historical knowledge was impeccable, not only giving the history of the camp itself, but also putting it in context of the overall situation in Germany and the world at large. The... More

From the beginning, we could tell that this company was fun and knowledgeable. We were joking with the meeting spot ushers from the start. We started off with the free tour, led by Duerte. He was not only extremely informative, but funny! His tour was an amazing way to see Berlin and definitely worth the 2.5 hours. He showed us... More

I took the Berlin free walking tour and would definitely recommend anyone thinking about doing it, to do it. It's a great way to see Berlin and meet people if you're travelling solo. I was taken on the 3hour tour by Rob M and he was super informative, funny and an all-round great tour guide. In three hours, Rob covers... More

This walking tour was a perfect start to my 3 day excursion in Berlin! We saw all of the main attractions/sites that the city has to offer which gave us outlets to pursue later on. Lizzie was extremely knowledgeable and fun and was able to read the group well. Two thumbs up!

We had a brilliant walking tour with Sam. Being a Phd history student he knows his subject so well but his passion and vitality is what brings the tour alive. I would gladly go on any tour he takes.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
