This was our second time visiting Komische Oper and our second time being blown away. We saw an opera both times (Magic Flute and Barber of Seville) and both were great. The singing is fantastic and the modern take on classics keeps you thoroughly entertained every time. We bought extremely reasonably priced tickets--18 euro this time and 12 euro last... More

Award winning director Barry Kosky is doing an outstanding job with productions such as his outstanding "Magic Flute" and Peter Pan. We are looking forward to the premier of his "The Pearls of Cleopatra" by Oscar Straus revival. Wonderful singers and orchestra, and excellent acoustics. The audiences too, are really into it and appreciative. Great opera experience.

We try to catch a show here whenever we are in Berlin. They always manage to produce something exrtaordinary and new, as with Dvorak this October season. A total entertainment.

Komische Oper, in Mitte, is an attractive and comfortable house with a very high standard of performances. I saw Jewgeny Onegin last weekend and it was a terrific production : cast, chorus, orchestra and director. In a city where you are spoiled with choice, this is one venue you should add to your list. Probably about 600m walk from U-Stadtmitte,... More

We were really impressed with the top notch production of the operetta in May. The actors were fantastic and the set design was great. It's a beautiful space and we hope to return again.

I have seen four performances, and have always been very satisfied. Perhaps the best of all was Offenbach's Les Contes d’Hoffman, but also Mozart's Zauberflöte was extremely good and unique as a performance. It seems that the interpretations are often refreshing, even experimental, which for me is a very positive thing. I liked also very much Il barbiere di Siviglia... More

This is a house with really friendly service everywhere we went. The house is beautiful and personal. The aquatic seems to be great. We saw "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg " and the five and a half hours went so fast. The orchestra played with such a passion and musicality. And the soloists were funny. Even though the cast is not... More

I've seen about six of seven performances here in the past 24 months, most are excellent, none really terrible. Its a very accessible opera house, easy online booking, nearly always open ticket shop in Unter den Linden, no dress code, friendly personnel and introductory talks (in German) before most performances. It is also the Berlin Opera House where ticket prices... More

Of course the performances change regularly, but one can always expect to get good quality. A couple of years ago I have seen Mahagonny here, the opera by. Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill. Today I have seen Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. Both in their different ways they were very remarkable. The theater itself is very beautiful.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
