We do like to shop: we admit it. Usually we stay away from big department stores on our travels, but we checked out the storied KaDeWe at the head of the Ku'dam, and we loved it!! Spacious, well-organized, with lovely quality goods that we did not see elsewhere. We bought accessories, stationery items and small kitchenwares. All clerks were helpful and... More

Once in KaDeWe - beside standard shopping - do visit the floor with the restaurants. The variety of cuisines, quality and hospitality is amazing.

KaDeWe is an amazing place for shopping or browsing. It's Europe's largest department store and one of the finest monuments and representations of the last century of German history.

KaDeWe is an abbreviated form of “ Kaufhaus des Westens” which means “Department store of the West”. It is located at an extended bent of Kurfürstendamm, a main shopping arcade of Berlin, and at about 900m walking distance from Kurfürstendamm Metro Station. This multistory department store offers mainly luxury and branded goods. You don’t expect prices to vary but rather... More

My son and I enjoy food and keep on going back for more on the 6th floor. The food section is really large and there os something for every one and for different budgets. Also the other floors are nice, but as said before: we go back for the food...

The manufacturers have a kind of small shop / both with individual service. A must to have a look especially at sales times. I find my luck during Xmas Shopping. Enjoy

The prices were super expensive. I didn't go in with the intention of buying something anyway but I didn't expect to leave angry. The prices enraged me just as much as the customers who were ready to spend that much on luxuries while so many people in the city have nothing to eat for dinner.

Impossible to go wrong at KaDeWe when out for shopping. Every top designer is represented and the layout of the building is fantastic. Everyone is especially helpful and speak multiple languages. Shopping is outstanding and the coffee and bar upstairs is great as well when you get an it winded. Great perfumes from the mainstream companies but also great scents... More

If you think the food hall in Harrods (London) is great, then think again. The food floor of KaDaWe is vast. Loads of individual counters selling meats, cheeses, fish (I have never seen such a variety of sausages). Some of the cheese areas are pungent enough to take your breath away (in a good way). Lots of places with seating... More

Beautiful shop with many top designer outlets inside. Nice to browse around in Tiffany Rolex and Hermes. There were 7 floors to look round and it was really busy, maybe due to the sales. The food hall looked amazing. We tried the restaurant on the 7th floor. We only got cake and coffee but boy what a cake, enormous and... More

Staying in Schoneberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Schoneberg
In 1963, Schöneberg was the centre of the political west, inspiring John F. Kennedy to choose this area to famously announce, "Ich bin ein Berliner." Times may have changed, but modern-day Schöneberg still pays tribute to its historical legacies. Once the richest city outside of Berlin proper, the area's affluent past is still visible in ornate housing facades dating back to the Gründerzeit of the 19th century, while residents in fur coats walking their dogs or shopping in high-end KaDeWe continue the tradition with a modern flair. Schöneberg was also once the centre of the decadent and burlesque nightlife of the 1920s. It was here that Marlene Dietrich partied with Christopher Isherwood and the first gay bar in Germany was founded. Today, the gay community still revolves around Nollendorfplatz. The overground Ubahn station is even illuminated in rainbow colors, paying tribute to Schöneberg's progressive past.
