    Very worth a visit
Spandau district is an excellent area to visit if you are in need of more restful period in Berlin. With S-Bahn it takes less than 30 minutes from Zoologischer Garten to Rathaus Spandau. And from there some 15 minutes’ walk to the Zitadelle. But do also visit the Spandau’s old town. At the Zitadelle you can take a scenic stroll or you can spend the whole day visiting the various attractions. The entrance fee is only 4,50 euros and it covers just about everything. There are several historical museums, art centers, bastion structures etc. A café is also available. Some spots are little ragged, but some sceneries are just wonderful, like the view from the top of the Julius Tower. The Bismarck special exhibition at the Zeughaus was both informative and fun with playful contemporary art works. It is available to the 1st of April 2024.

    Perfect place to visit
Perfect place inside the rivers. Ι went there and lost my bag with my wallet , id card and all personal things inside. Want to thank the people in the entrance that kept it and gave it back to me. Otherwise no id card to return to greece, no money to return to Berlin, no key for my hotel. They are really kind and helpfull.

Worth a visit if you’re in Berlin for a while as outside the main tourist attraction. .
We got the underground here and went through the old town first very nice old German town with cobblestone streets. And nice to see the shops closed on a Sunday. The weather was glorious so it was nice to be able to walk around the Zitadlle.

Having seen lots of things and places in Berlin we dedided to visit the Spandau Citadel. A short walk from the U-bahn station, not expensive but very impressive and interesting for those who like history.
While visiting the citadel it is highly recommanded to spend some extra money on the audio guide. (the ticket seller didn't consider it necessary to mention its presence; after more than thirty years old habits still seem to exist)
As far as I could see there are no special features for those who are having problems climbing stairs. The Julius Tower (the oldest building in Berlin) has a decent staircase, leading to a very nice view over as well the citadel as Berlin, but no elevator. Besides the two museums showing the history of the citadel and Spandau the citadel also contains a very interesting permanent collection of 'removed statues' of Berlin.

I enjoyed the walk around the citadel. It was very quiet, and I only saw one school group and a few people wandering around. I read online that it opened at 10am, but unfortunately that was just the grounds and not the buildings. The museum and tower didn’t open until 1pm, so I was unable to visit.

Tenacious D, great Show! But the venue is shown on a map as nearby the citadel, they call it "Freilichtbühne" for 600 people and you could bring drinks. But it's on the inside and you can only bring opened (!) 0.5l bottles and to buy a beer and a 7up you pay 18€! Concerts only for the rich, that is clear. But if you don't want to lose your whole money: Stay out of this place!

When we visit any city, we like to spend a day travelling out to the suburbs for a different experience. Only a thirty minute train journey from the centre, Spandau was a separate town when the Citadel was built. This military fort from the end of the sixteenth century has been well preserved, originally built to protect the area, it has gone through many guises and today is well worth a visit with a wide selection of exhibits. We found the various guides throughout the site were especially helpful. Additionally, the climb to the top of the tower offers great views over town and countryside. In the main summer months music festival are held in the grounds. You should be aware that to get the maximum benefit from a visit requires a reasonable level of fitness and balance as many of the historic areas are uneven.

I called in here to kill some time and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

GOOD THINGS

Beautiful setting on island next to a moat and the river
Lots of wildlife including fish, coots, moorhens, swans herons, ducks.
Excellent display of intricate statues
Fascinating armoury
FANTASTIC bat exhibition where you can creep up in the dark and observe live bats living in an underground dungeon. I just loved to see them so close.

ODD

My German is not Strong so maybe i missed a do not enter sign but i opened a door from high up on the ramparts and found myself wandering around what appeared to be a primary school full of children having art lessons. I back tracked very quickly as i am sure that the general public are not supposed to be there!

BAD

I had a guide with map but yet it was still very difficult to find my way around. The signage left a lot to be desired.

I would definitely recommend this place for a visit.

the fortress looks very nice, especially in the nature surrounding (green surfaces and the river). it was under siege by the swedish troops in the 17th century, and it was captured by the French troops in 1806. At the end of the world war II the fortress was not heavily damaged due to negotiations. Inside there is a nice museum. During summer there are concerts, some of the more familiar guests were Zaz, Tom Jones, Manu Chao, Slash, Limp Bizkit, Paul van Dyk and others

Came to Berlin and stayed in Spandau to attend the NiN gig at the Spandauer Zitadelle. Excellent venue for music. The acoustics were brilliant. The prices for beer weren't to extreme for a venue either. Upon leaving - be warned - there is quite a hefty bottleneck to get over the bridge and into the street - but with patience and not too much pushing and shoving you will get out in a moderately quick time.
