For someone who has an overall interest in military history was looking forward to visiting this relics of WW2, but what a waste of time. Due to the time of year there were no internal tours & the outside is covered in graffiti with various other forms of detritus littering the area. There is no signage to inform you of what it was used for or any other form of information. While the view over this part of the city is good that is about it. Save yourself the time & effort of going, it’s not worth it.

I decided to explore the Flak Tower and surrounding area after reading about it’s WW2 origin. Although there isn’t any information about this at the tower, I still enjoyed the climb and being able to see a new view of the city. I wouldn’t say it’s a must see, but if you are in the area, it’s worth a visit.

My wife and I were in Berlin for our tenth anniversary so we thought we'd try some historical tours.
We booked the berlin underworld tour 2, from flak towers to mountains of debris.
Our tour guide Elliot spoke excellent German and English and gave the tour in a very friendly and professional manner. His knowledge of the history and technical details was second to nine.
This was a fantastic insight into one of Berlin's infamous wartime monuments that was commissioned by Adolf Hitler himself.
We both really enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it or any by Berlin Underworld.

When i was in town i decided to run to the Flak Tower as i wasn't sure my fellow visitors would want to see this structure. I didnt take a tour. The tower is (like much of Berlin) covered in graffiti and all the plaques showing info were damaged or broken so it was hard to see what each part was. The park it is in was very nice and near a swimming pool and station. The view from the top is great, the best part of it from my experience.

When we were planning our trip to Berlin, I had so much excitement in anticipation of visiting the Humboldthain Flak Tower. Well, I was very disappointed in the end. Why? It is so poorly maintained on the exterior. There was broken glass everywhere on just about every level of the tower. Not just a little glass, but a considerable amount. I read where visiting the tower was "kid friendly" by a reviewer. Kids are curious and with the amount of broken glass we saw throughout, I'd be pretty hesitant to take kids there. We also saw a used feminine hygiene product on one of the steps at the tower. Trash cans were overflowing and trash in general was scttered thoughout. Someone had managed to get a small amp on the tower and the music was so loud that it was thumping your chest. Just the overall vibe visiting the tower was not enjoyable and I'm a big fan of visiting WW2 sites, but not this one.
On the positive side of things, there are some nice walking trails leading up to the tower with a nearby park (which we did not visit, but gets good reviews). There is an outfit that will give you a guided tour of the inside of the Flak Tower and this review is NOT a reflection on them as we did not use them. This was a visit to the tower on our own. In my opinion, seeing the Flak Tower from the bridge (see attached image) would suffice as it gives you a sense of scale of the flak towers of WW2. If you plan on visiting Berlin and visiting the Humboldthain Flak Tower is on your list, I would look into other options such as the German Resistance Memorial Center, House of the Wannsee Conference, Plotzensee Prison Memorial, or Museum Berlin-Karlshorst. And if you are wanting good 360 views, I'd recommend visiting the top of the Berliner Dom.

Touring the remains of this flack gun bunker with tour guide Carsten was mind blowing and sobering. Three quarters of the bunker was destroyed by the French as it was located in their quadrant of Berlin. What remained was too close to the railway so it was left. To destroy the entire structure may have taken out the railway line.
Once you view inside the reinforced concrete many metres thick, one can understand how much dynamite was needed to destroy these. It is a shame they didn’t leave them in tact for later generations.
Such an explosion would have potentially taken out the railway line.
Carstens explanation of the power of the flack guns was mind numbing. No wonder so many of the allies bombers were hit
These were constructed within one year. Quite unbelievable when you view them
One word of warning. There are 150 plus steps to climb to get to this.
If you can manage these an absolute must

Very interesting piece of history that is pretty much invisible until you have walkwed right to it.

A remnant of the past, Flat Tower’s two remaining towers offer amazing views of Berlin.

To get there, you need to climb a hill. Set in a nice park, you don’t feel like being in a city at all.

The only negative being the mess all over the place. Other than that, I very much recommend visiting this place.

If you've done the highlights of Berlin this may be interesting. During WWII the nazi built several air defence towers around Berlin. The are located at quite high point. So after a climb, it offers a great view on the city. Next to that the concrete Bunkers resemble castle's which makes it worth the visit..

A must for WWII buffs & a site with views! Located in the Volkspark this is the only remaining flak tower from WWII (there were 3 in total) which have long been destroyed. Indeed the remains of this tower, is what is left as over half of the tower were blown up post war.
Not a good selling job by me, what is left is still on a huge scale, you take a stroll through the park ,up a semi steep hill and upon reaching the top you can appreciate the massive scale of the the tower. As well as a flak tower it was also used as a massive air raid shelter.
Also, not expected was the views of the city.

Views are ok if not spectacular. Easy to reach by public transport and at the subway station theres a big foodmarket where you can buy beer for the hill and pee. Lots of sitting places up on the hill for beering..
