We wanted to visit the dungeon spontaneously. Only online tickets are sold. Which weak man had the "wise idea" to sell only online tickets. Buying online on the street is stupid but also unsafe. Banks demand security features that do not have to be visible to strangers. A spontaneous visit is therefore not possible. Others have also complained loudly. Since we make spontaneous decisions, a visit has become impossible for us.

We had a great time until the last ride where I accidentally took the safety down on the ride. I thought it was single ones and not one whole. Also me and my friend are not fluent in German so any warnings about it must have been lost in translation. Nevertheless when the guy operating the ride discovered the mistake, he made a big fuss of trying to find out who did it instead of just lifting the safety immediately and getting on with his job. He then accused me and my friend (which was right) but he spoke no English so we couldn’t tell him it was a mistake. And then he threw us out. Very disappointed that a simple mistake that (anyone could have made) got us kicked out.

Hello Josefinec, we are glad to hear that you enjoyed the tour. And we are absolutely sorry for the misunderstanding! It is very important that our guests are safe that´s why our team member was that strick. But it was a misunderstanding. And we are sorry for that. Your Hamburg Dungeon Team

This was a very successful performance of dark times of the penultimate century. The actors in the different rooms really carried us away. The different themes from this period were reproduced and played in detail. Really great! If you want to scare yourself a bit, this is the place to be. My daughter 11 years old was having fun and terrified in equal measure - you can expect your children at that age.
Kind regards Uwe

Really cool experience! It was super well done, the employees really got into the role, were good at English and easy to understand in pronunciation. At no point was the tour boring, and they made sure that everyone had a good experience with the Hamburg Dungeon.

After student other reviews, we could learn that a dungeon tour can also take 90 minutes and not just 50. Unfortunately, we cannot report a free fall either.
Overall to say that the show in the Dungeon already occupies a unique selling point in Germany and that is not bad and for children and teenagers anyway.
However, you should not book your card with too much expectation.
Anyone who has work to do in Hamburg anyway can certainly do so.

Mega great event, great performers. Great, anytime. Good mix of horrors, historical facts about the city of Hamburg and action (pirate boat trip and prison break). Mega 🤩

A great experience of Hamburg's history. Great showmen with humor and seriousness. Unfortunately my daughter had to stop, but I have been there several times and haven't missed anything. The staff were all helpful and attentive. We were given water and sugar. It's not to be underestimated for children, but everyone should have their own experience.

Too few special effects and too much "boo, get scared!"
A school class could have put it together just like that. I thought it was really poor. Far too expensive for that! And not even historically accurate. The "actors" weren't great either.

Pro:
English Tours since May.
Less waiting time when taking part in English tour.

Cons:
Videos still in German.
English Subtitles provided but sometimes difficult to read when a big group.
Long 'Stoertebecker' Video without Subtitles at all.
Some actors are snobby 'prima donnas'.

I really looked forward to the visit at the Hamburg Dungeons & was delighted to see that when you take part in an English tour, that starts at fixed time, you wont have to wait as long as the poor people waiting for the German tour.
In all fairness, if I would have had to wait in line I would probably not bothered as it looked like a 1-2 hour wait.

Once we were ushered into the first room before the show started a quiet gruesome actor came jumping out of a door growling at us. Just what you expect to happen.
When he passed us I poked him with my finger for fun.
Expecting him to jump around & roar and try to 'scare us'.
Instead he looked at me & started talking to me in German.
When I replied 'I'm sorry I don't understand. I don't speak much German' he left through a side door, came back a minute later, told me to follow him & presented me to one of the people working behind the scenes.
The actor left grumbling 'Schmeiss sie sofort raus!' which means as much as 'Throw her out!' That much German I do understand.
The backstage guy then explained to me with a very red head that we should not touch the actors as they are professionals. He was definitely embarrassed having to give me this talk.
I apologised to him, saying it didn't mean anything by it & he allowed me to join the tour again.

As you can imagine this tainted the rest of the experience somewhat. I know the dungeon is not a children attraction but for an actor to blow a fuse like this...

In defence of the other actors I have to admit that there were really great ones & none of them seem to be as stuck up as the first one.
I just can't help wondering if I would have been thrown out if the actor wouldn't have needed a translator.

All in all the show was fun but it did feel a bit like being walked from one themed room to the next.

The 'boat ride' wasn't very exciting but keeping in mind that it is set up inside of a building you can't expect an amusement park style log ride.

As it was the first time I rode in a free fall 'ride' and I was nearly about to chicken out it was pretty scary and nicely done.

All in all it's probably a must for Dungeon fans but I'd really love to go to the London or Edinburgh Dungeon to be able to compare the quality of the show & rides.

We visited Hamburg Dungeon whilst in port on a cruise, having pre-booked tickets through tripadvisor. The only reason I couldn't give this 5 stars is that we had to do the tour in German as they only do English language tours at 10am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. However, despite the obvious difficulties and missing out on a lot of the fun due to not understanding most of what was said by the characters on the tour, it was still great fun, and really good value for money. If I am ever back in Hamburg I would do it again whilst they have an English language tour on so I could enjoy the bits I missed. I would say younger children might find this too scary as it is dark and the characters are so convincing at scaring you! It is also quite interactive, members of the audience/group are bought in to the action by the cast. There are a couple of little rides along the way, a water flume and a free-fall drop (which we skipped due to a member of the family having a heart condition) but you can bypass both if needed. highly recommended but check that you are going when you can understand the language!
