About
Reeperbahn is Hamburg’s party central, comprising everything from nightclubs and erotic theaters to cabarets and art galleries. In the 1960s, the district’s dive bars also played host to bands like The Beatles and The Jets. In the day, check out the Panoptikum wax figure museum, visit a market at the Spielbudenplatz square, and snap a photo with the Beatles monument. When night falls, head to one of the dynamic nightclubs and bars.
You might want to plan your visit during events and festivals, where the area comes alive with concerts, as well as art, literature, and film exhibitions. – Tripadvisor

- Rob5 contributionsWorth a visitWe have found the parking to be free and incredibly close and accessible to visit. We found the windows to be well maintained and of good insulation with new UPVC frames of matching colours. Dissatisfied however with your customer service when the window was closed in our faces. Nice touch with all the cashpoints easily accessible and available to guests. Beer was of adequate temperature and volume served in nice glasses. Some advice for the management maybe having a customer service desk and implementing a no phone policy for your staff.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 22 September 2023
- sakmrThane, India24 contributionshamburg overviewgood place, good people. Not a lots to see, but the vibe of the city is very good We were fortunate to visit during the UNITY festival.... the whole area was alive and abuzz with activities. Concert stages and food stalls lined the city center... Alster Lake is beautiful, for those who love to walk or cycle, Alster lake presents the perfect experience church of St. Micheal's, the port, Reeperbahn street&the warehouse district are different experiences food is varied, with options of different cuisines available in plenty. a must mention Restaurant is MAZE MAZE is excellent for dining High end shopping can be done along Alster Lake, while budget shopping is good at Billstedt Center ( PS: billstedt centre has acafe serving wonderful Tres Leche cake - not to be missed) Day trip to Ludwig is definitely warrantedVisited October 2023Travelled on businessWritten 20 October 2023
- Thomas VOakland, California17,485 contributionsLively at NightWell the Beatles were here and so were we. It is an entertainment district, at one time notorious for its honky tonk atmosphere. It is somewhat cleaned up, but there still are a lot of music and places to drink beer. Very lively at night.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 June 2024

I was fortunate to have a new local friend I met on the train take me out for the Christmas market one night and it was a blast!
I got to see parts of the neighborhood my parents lived when I was born, although it has changed a lot since then. St. Pauli is definitely worth a stop, even if you prefer to go during the daytime.
They block off a section of the street for the market, which once you enter, you are basically shoulder to shoulder so definitely watch your bags and pockets, especially if you are drinking! But you won't feel the cold as much!
Venture down the bahn and into the sidestreets where the pubs and bars are including the iconic places where the Beatles performed.
The crowds are so friendly and festive. This was likely the best and most unique Christmas market out of the eight I visited between Germany, Czech Republic and Prague.
I last visited in summer of 1988. It is certainly more lively now.
I can't wait to go back; next time during a warmer season!

Mixed feelings. Went once to certain bars and clubs recommended by my friends living in Hamburg and had so much fun(we went by taxi). Went a second time to explore and have a nice night out since it is the place advertised as "crazy good fun " and was met with a untasteful scene of locals and tourists acting out in indecent ways piss drunk and throwing up all over the place it was wild. we tried to escape into a random club and i was personally harassed and groped by a local. the staff at the bar took my drink when it was half full and insisted that i had finished when i promptly insisted that i would like another glass with half the amount the bartender gave me a snarky look and poured me a single drop lol . that was the feel in other clubs as well. I would recommend if you go be prepared and be aware and only go with friends or someone who knows the place.

The Reeperbahn makes the best case ever that s** is better with the lights off. or at least in the dark.
On a grim, damp, late Autumn Saturday afternoon, it was probably at its least alluring and attractive. I can't imagine that it transforms utterly as the light fades and as the neons come on.
It was grim beyond words. Untidy, seedy, unkempt in daylight, probably at night, what you can't see, won't bother you. The Red Light District must come alive late at night.
Several little knots of people, sitting, kneeling, huddled around bottles of cheap booze, in daylight at least, this place is not for the fainthearted.
I wasn't sure what the Reeperbahn was - call me naïve, but I'd first heard of it in Heavy Connection, a beautiful Van Morrison song that goes, 'I remember when I got your message in Amsterdam. I was going through my letters
And found a picture-postcard of the Reeperbahn'.
With a few hours to spare on a damp, dull Saturday , thought I might seek it out. Cue a long, wet walk through Hamburg to find it. The weather echoed perfectly the sense of the place.
Amongst many seedy pubs, I did find one where a bottle of local beer was about E2.50. It was small, basic, pleasant and clean. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is King, eh.

Walked the Reeperbahn today searching for the venues the Beatles had played. All still exist but do little to advertise their interesting past and were difficult to find. The area clearly had its day in the 1960s. Any charm it may have had then, is long since gone. The streets were full of strip clubs and bars. The pavements were full of rubbish and broken bottles. I’m glad I came during the day as I do not think I would like to be here at night. We did however find an amazing cafe called Der Kiezbacker which sold the best coffee and cakes we had had on our visit to Hamburg. So even though the Reeperbahn is clearly not to my taste I will be back tomorrow for breakfast.

I was interested to visit this area to see the Beatles history and also the historic red light area.
The streets are littered with rubbish and homeless vagrants and oozes seediness, this was on a Monday afternoon. I could imagine some of the gay bars and drag clubs being fun on a night out but it really looked like a poor mans Camden meets Soho in daylight. Was glad to leave....

Maybe it was because of covid times in combination with rainy weather but Reeperbahn looked very lonely and much less attractive than in my memories. Many shops and restaurants were still closed and only few people strolling around. But there also was an absolute highlight we enjoyed on our Hamburg trip. Boutique Bizarre. They claim to be Europe’s largest erotic shop and I guess it’s true. Their collection of toys and tools is amazing. The very clean shop is well organised in different departments so you easily find what you are looking for or discovering something new. Especially the fetish department in the basement is huge. It felt like an adult theme park for the more kinky. They have everything you can imagine. A broad variety of latex or pvc outfits, boots, shoes, masks, whips, torture devices of any kind and even f……g machines. Thereby the friendly and very helpful staff makes you feel totally relaxed whilst shopping. So my mistress got some stunning outfits and also found some toys for me. So in the end we left Boutique Bizarre and Reeperbahn with a large shopping bag and a big smile on our faces.

We visited this place in a special tour in a group of four with a guide. It is a place for somebody who can accept the non appetizing scenes of women . It reminds of some streets in Bangkok and other thai cities. nothing special nowadays.

Hamburg is a wonderful, vibrant city that offers a lot for any traveller to see. A beautiful place to spend time exploring and enjoying.
However, the Reeperbahn is best avoided unless you are looking for tacky and entirely unremarkable lowest common denominator rubbish in one awful area. I've been to sexier abattoirs and felt less in need of a bath afterwards. It's relentlessly grim, remorselessly dreadful and to be avoided at all costs.

What is the situation with regards to covid.
Do you need vaccine passports to get in the bars and pubs?
Are the opening hours still the same. I am visiting in early December and intend to visit some of the classic ‘dive bars’ on the Kiev.

Thanks

I would probably get nice meals elsewhere although I’m sure you can find a decent place somewhere around there. This area is strictly bars and partying. Some higher end hotels on the street have some nice food and cocktails. Make sure and visit Paradise Point of Sex with your boys ! Don’t miss that, lol. With 20 people I would probably get a reservation somewhere for the food part. The rest you should be able to walk around and get taken care of. That street is great for stag

Hamburg, Germany
Reeperbahn is the most dangerous hamburger place : murders, corruptions, sexual slavery, pedophilia, drugs dealers...
Written 19 June 2018
I do not believe that this location in Hamburg is anything more than a FORMER red light district. Today it is filled with perhaps to some unsavory. A tourist bus delight. From what I have seen there is a police force that would deal with the trafficking that seems to prompt a comment. There ARE side streets. And certainly all kinds of sex might well there. If y person is offended by sex shops, then do not go. But to castigate with generalizations not at all helpful. There is a Broadway theater. There is a famous drag show, and there are bars and likely booze in quantities. But, while it has been some time, would walk and even stop at a sex shop and feel comfortable.

Booked a weekend here with my other half mainly for a day/night partying, one of the main reasons we booked Hamburg was to witness the Reeperbahn area and the strip clibs and red light district, iv read that females arent welcome? is this true and does it just count for the brothels/red light district or does this include the stripclubs and main Reeberbahn bars and clubs
