Live History
Aug 2019
It is an original suburb where the 2017 G20 Riots happened. I went with several people, one of whom was a local to Hamburg & a history buff - I don't think I'd go there solo.
It is very interesting from a historical viewpoint.

Post-80's glory days european filth & degeneracy at its worst. Junkies, gutter punks with stray dogs, drugged out of their minds transvestites, people sleeping on a street.. prostitution,Corrupt police. utter misery and despair.

not as crazy as it used to be
Sep 2019 • Couples
I’ve been coming here for over 40 years and witnessed so many changes, to be honest i liked it better way back all that time ago. It was crazy full of night life and of course sex!!
The fish market was and is a mornings outing that must be done with a few schnapps under the belt
Yes the area has become tamer but the bars and clubs are still fun, just let yourself go you’ll have a blast

Just grungy and perfect

There’s something for everyone despite being the red light district and carrying many stigmas. There are many theatres and bars which host live music over the years Ed Sheehan has performed here along with many other big artists. There are nice restaurants as well as fast food eateries and bars, there are areas for adult activities but in my experience many of the visitors are just there for the bars and pubs which line the streets. You can catch most of the football at the many sports bars. At the moment there is a fair ground outside the st Pauli football stadium with rides and food stalls. It’s great

Hamburg's genuine seafarer district
Jul 2019 • Couples
This is my favourite district of the metropolis, with its traditional atmosphere of a seaport and a fishermen's harbour, though extending several kilometres, including hundreds of fish restaurants, pubs, fish halls, shipyards, dry docks etc. Harbour cruises go on from sunrise to sunset. A tourist paradise.

Characterful & Archaic

Every city needs this kind of place where citizens challenge the status quo for the rights of the majority. Take a leisurely stroll to take in the sights or better still join one of the walking tours of the area for a great and informative overview of what goes on here.

Beware the Fraudsters of St Pauli's Herbertstrasse / Herbertstraße
Jun 2019 • Friends
There are good and bad places in St Pauli. I visited with some friends from the UK and Germans. Beware Herbertstrasse (also known as Herbertstraße) where many of the beautiful young women are a honeytrap - they will agree a price but once you have paid the money they will increase the price and usually you get nothing - it is a fraud, basically, and the street should be closed down until the women act with honesty and integrity. My friend was defrauded of 50 euros. I strongly advise you to just have a look rather than do anything on this street and wonder why the Hamburg authorities or police haven't done anything about it.
Hold onto your possessions closely on the Reeperbahn as there are pickpockets. Don't go into the smaller strip bars such as "Magic Moments" on Reeperbahn as they will try and get you to buy drinks for the women and then charge you 60 euros per drink - you'll get a shock when the bill arrives!
There are some good places in St Pauli too but avoid the above.

Shady but safe

Punk and prepis is all the same streets, similar to what happened to the Che Guevara once its image got capitalized. Still, a little dirty and rough feeling can be felt there, only to be forgotten once you pass the margarita bars

What a dump
Jun 2019 • Couples
We didn’t find St Pauli to be fun or artsy. It’s really dirty and graffiti isn’t art. The people were unfriendly and seemed to take pride in that. Credit cards aren’t welcome and prices seem to change. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit here, or Hamburg in general. There are much nicer cities in Europe.

Historical left party place
Apr 2018 • Friends
St Pauli is a neighborhood, which is a historical place related with left party in Hamburg, a city in the North of Germany.
Now in some streets it is very degraded, but others are included in a fashion zone. Also you can see squatted houses and the police. It is a mix, where you can see some historical buildings like Davidwache, Schmidt Theater and Tivoli, Rote Flora or Schanzenviertel.
(see also Schanzenviertel, Schanzenpark and Schmidt Tivoli)
