This museum gives a good inside look of the history of Hamburg. It has cool mockups from the city during different periods of time. And there are free audioguides which are very usefull. (Unfortunately the lady at the desk forgot to offer them to us in the first place, so we had to ask).

We visited the museum on a Saturday, and we were glad that it was not crowded at all. After paying for the admission, we were offered free audio guides to use as we made our way through the museum. It was a good way to gain additional information on top of the texts provided for the exhibits. The museum is... More

This museum compared favourably with similar museums throughout Europe and we found the Hamburg perspective very interesting and informative. At times there is lots to read, so we needed to skim read in certain places as we only had a couple of hours before another appointment. We found the history of emigration from Europe (with Hamburg as the departure point)... More

Visited this museum as the weather outside was wet and cold. And what a good idea it was. The museum has a great overview of the history of the city, it's growth and importance as a hub for trade. Of interest is also the section on the Jews of the city over time. On the top floor is an amazing... More

Museum with a lot of interesting items about the history of the Hamburg and, especially a small railway train station, but this exposition opens only a few times a day. Also, there represents many historical ships and small copies of the Hamburg at different times.

I enjoyed my time at this museum to the history of Hamburg despite a cranky staff and a somewhat uninspiring layout. The trains on the top floor are cool, and some of the history exhibits are neat. I especially like the display dedicated to Jewish history in Hamburg. I think it's worth the entry to visit. There are some cool... More

As opposed to the other museum we visited this museum was fascinating, with loads of exhibits, information in english and German and really friendly staff, i'd reccomend it to anyone.

Regretfully we left our visit to this museum until the penultimate day of our trip to Hamburg and found that the three hours we spent here were not sufficient. For train buffs this museum also has a layout, on the top floor, of Hamburg and Harburg. On the hour volunteers operate the trains, and as we were interested they ran... More
