The Cap San Diego is a cargo ship that's been docked in Hamburg harbour since the mid eighties and functions as a museum, documenting cargo shipping before container ships took over the seas. It was an active cargo ship from the sixties to the eighties and is amazingly well preserved. You can wander the ship and learn from the booklet... More

An interesting experience to spend a night on the former cargo liner. Whilst the ship is still breathing the style and atmosphere of the 1950s, accommodation is not eligible for romance. The beds are definitely too small for two persons and an additional bed is not really romantic.

Touring the machine, the hulls, the bridge of this freighter, was just plain cool. It was a cold winters day when we visited. Most parts of the ship are open to visitors, with signs (allthough not always in English) explaining the running of the ship, when it was crossing between Hamburg and Buenos Aires with different kinds of cargo.

It's a big boat and it was interesting to get in. You can visit the machine room, the rooms, go take your selfie in the captain's deck or next to a huge propeller (on the main deck). You were free to wander around but there was little explained (I can't remember if there was a guided visit but maybe it'd... More

This is the last of the conventional cargo vessels that sailed from hamburg preserved so that visitors can walk around and see how the vessel worked and ran.

I recently stayed in a single cabin on the CAP San Diego for 3 nights and it was truly the experience of a lifetime. I realize I sound like an advertisement here, but I’m happy to do it. Staying on this ship is phenomenal! They offer 4 single cabins, 4 double cabins, and the captain’s cabin. Just like a hotel.... More

This is a functioning ship, good audio guide, gives a great feeling for how sea trade was conducted in the recent past. Inexpensive, for people interested to walk around a boat.

First of all I have to say that I really like this ship, in particular its form. It has a beautiful silhouette. But being a old freighter, there isn't much too see or too much surprises. If you have ever seen a big navy ship or submarine from the inside, then this tends to be a bit boring. Especially if... More

There aren't that many parts of this ship that are off limits, and you are pretty much free to roam about - be it the cargo hull, the bridge, engine room, around the propeller shaft or the decks. The highlight was looking around the engine room of this old, yet operational ship. The ship is very well maintained, and looks... More
