I admit that this building is rather impressive. But there's actually not much to do here. It's worth visiting if you're passing by but not more than that. A UNSECO heritage site though.

You need to learn the history of this building if it's going to mean something to you. Then take a closer look and you'll feel like you've made a trip back in time. To some people, it may seem like just a load of bricks stacked in flowing arched lines. But learn what it represents, and you'll know it's an... More

Walk around the building and try to see it from different angles, corners and levels. Then walk through it. Then walk away and see it from some distance. Try to imagine how this was build in the 20's and the influence of Expressionism.

Built in the 20ies of the last century this building is just outstanding and even more together with the Sprinklerhof opposite of Chilehouse, constructed by the same architect some 20 years later.

An office building designed by architect Fritz Höger for a merchant who derived his wealth from trading with Chile, The brown-brick 1924 Chilehaus is shaped like an ocean liner, with remarkable curved walls meeting in the shape of a ship’s bow and staggered balconies that look like decks. Architecture fans will love it.

If you are an architecture enthusiast, this will interest you a lot. If not: well, it’s still a pretty nice building anyway. It is an outstanding example of the building style “German Brick Expressionism“.

Go there at weekdays and you can use the public entry to visit the hallways of a classical example of "brick-architecture" of the 30ies in Hamburg. The spanish cultural Institute, CERVANTES, is holding lectures, movie or music evenings and is free for visitors. Smokers can enjoy an excellent Cuban cigar at the Casa del Habano in the building`s ground floor... More

Nothing doing really. Fair enough its architecturally interesting but you can only look at it before going on your way.
