This was an organised visit with a guide as part of university geology seminar. Hence comments will not apply to many. It was of such great interest along with questions and debate time flew so never made it to the bottom. Our guide was a...More

We visited it last year in summer. We just managed to get on the last tour, but there was no time left to see the museum on site. However, the tour was informative and there are some fossils found available to see and our guide...More

It's a UNESCO World Heritage site, and could definitely impress. However, it's the worst presented UNESCO site I've ever visited. First of all, the signposting to get there is atrocious. Our car's GPS brought us close but then didn't find the exact location. The signs...More

We went there with the kids, but the actual place was closed and it did not make the impression as if there is actually much to see. Clearly a very important spot for science, and also the museum with some of the finds was interesting,...More

The site is very interesting, an amazing place, the visitor center well organized with well realized exhibits. As announced by the lady at the cashier we would have expected a translation into English of the guided tour: no way apparently for the guide on duty...More

Wear sturdy shoes as the tour takes you through the park and down to the archelogical digging pits. We were allowed to dig for fossils and found some-you are not allowed to keep them of course! In spring the park is full of wildflowers. Good...More

The site is not impressive in itself -- if I had come across it on a walk, I would not have thought it was anything remarkable. Fortunately, we had a very good guide, and he explained a lot about the site and its significance.

The Messel pit in itself is quite unspectacular. Its a hole in the ground. There is a nice visitors platform with informative signs. The visitors center nearby is pretty new and modern. If you want to see many fossils you should probably visit the Landesmuseum...More

I visited the Messel Fossil Pit with a school group many years after moving to Germany. I had no idea that such a discovery was so close to us! This isn't a tourist attraction, as one can only see the dig pre-booked with a guide,...More
