- GoAlong2Seattle, Washington893 contributionsSoaring CathedralThis impressive church towers above the center of the city. Inside the soaring arches provide excellent acoustics for music performances. A boys choir was rehearsing whom I was there. I enjoyed the music while viewing the artifacts and signs describing the history of the church building. Tours of the tower are offered at specific times during the day. It is well worth a stop when visiting Frankfurt.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 5 November 2023
- Aniello SaggeseBaronissi, Italy2,092 contributionsOld beautiful cathedralThis Roman Catholic Gothic church was built in the heart of the old city. The cathedral is very well-conserved and shows many ancient masterpieces. His location is fairly easy to find because its impressive 95-meter tower and spire dominate the city skyline. In its internal, there is a magnificent pipe organ and a composition of the Jesus Christ crucifixion. It surely deserves a visit, especially during the summer, its freshness will surprise you.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 March 2024
- Sevil AbasıkeleşIstanbul, Türkiye137 contributionsIt's definitely worth seeing! It is one of the rare buildings worth seeing with its classical Gothic structure, located close to Römer Square. The church is dedicated to St. Bartholomew and stands as the largest religious structure in the city. It holds significant historical importance in Germany, having survived the Second World War with damages and serving as the venue for the coronation ceremonies of emperors. A must-see place!Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 23 June 2024
- EGM68Gateshead, United Kingdom212 contributionsWorth a visitAn interesting and very impressive building, which is well worth a visit. Not enough to occupy more than an hour or so though as cathedrals go it's one of the better ones we've visited on our travels. Very easy to find, as it's not far from a U Bahn station and close to many other local attractions.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 August 2024

It’s imposing gothic architecture with the high tower makes it stand out from everything else around. The cathedral is very close to the famous Iron bridge and Romerberg and there is no entrance fee leaving no reason not to visit it.Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten 19 September 2024

Like so many other historic churches that we have visited across Europe, this cathedral was rich with numerous artistic and cultural elements on the inside, such as stained glass, statues, and paintings. This church had a little pamphlet that was available which helped us understand what we were looking at while inside.
Separately, with a different entrance, we paid a small admission fee to take the 500+ steps to the top of the bell tower. Once at the top, we were treated with sweeping views of Frankfurt and the surrounding area. It was a very nice way to cap off our sightseeing in Frankfurt and in Germany for this trip.

Absolutely gorgeous cathedral, upon entry there were candles you could light for a donation. You can enter the cathedral and walk round and pray if you wish. It’s absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth a look inside.
Separately, with a different entrance, we paid a small admission fee of about 2 euros each to enter a sort of museum which took us less than 5 minutes. There was no where that mentioned going the the top or anything like that which now finding out I’m very disappointed.
All in all definitely worth a visit to have a look as it’s pretty much free unless you’d like to see what’s in the little museum and even then it’s a small fee.

It was quite a climb up to the top, not as many stairs in comparing with Florence, Italy.
However by using the same stairs up and down, it will be crowded if the place is busy.
The view up to the top was beautiful! The top was also so narrow, it allowed only two people came across at one time only.
We went in the morning which helped the situation.
A few Euros was worth it!

Me and my father climbed the tower it seemed like endless spiralling stairs! It was fun, and the view did not disappoint. You must be careful climbing the stairs it is extremely narrow and dual service for up and down. I think it could be managed a little more safely with some stewarding.
After the tower we entered the actual cathedral. The cathedral had an amzing group of painted windows displaying Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. It was also lovely too see people devoting themselves to god. My only disappointment was the size of the cathedral considering how big the city is. There are many churches in the area, there is no lack of choice. This one is a great viewing but certainly not the best

So the story goes like this...this church was one of the only building in Frankfurt that made it through the world wars. Not only because it was a church but because it was so tall that the allies powers used it as a reference point in the city as the planes where dropping bombs on Frankfurt. Nevertheless glad this one is still standing as it’s beautiful as any historic church of those times.

Wonderful church during our visit in the heart of Frankfurt. Interesting information in the front diagrammatically showing the damage during WWII and the repairs that were made. The interior is fairly modern appearing compared to most of the churches that we visited. There is the ability to climb to the top of the structure though we chose not to due to time. If you are in the area it’s worth taking a peek into this fine church. Enjoy.

Cathedrals are always impressive. I tend to give them a five rating since the inside of any holy place brings a feeling of peace and euphoria. This cathedral certainly does not let one down in any way. It is well worth visiting and can be seen in less than 30 minutes unless you study each and every artifact. My wife and I stopped in here to pray for world peace.

The Cathedral was one of the few buildings spared by WWII. Very simple interiors, typical wood works representing religious scenes, a place of peace and quiet. You can usually go up the stairs to enjoy a beautiful sight of Frankfurt.

This cathedral is currently under development on it's exterior but that doesn't take anything away from it's pure splendour. With lovely terracotta brickwork and a main steeple with a clock face to each side it's truly majestic. The intricate architecture is phenomenal and great photos can be gained from all sides if you walk around it. Inside it's giant pillars adorn the whole area with a beautiful altar and huge glass windows and gold leaf ornaments and statues make this a place not to be missed.

Hi, is the staircase to the viewing platform in the tower extremely narrow? Like is it difficult to get past people coming the other way? (I get a bit claustrophobic ....).
Written 1 November 2018
Yes it is narrow like every other cathedral tower stairs are. Please avoid if claustrophobic.

They do have Mass a few times a day (there's a schedule in the front), but I don't think it's in English. Hope that helps.

Are there actual serivces here on Sundays?
Written 8 August 2015
Yes-but in German. Still worth going. Ask your hotel what time Mass is held. I think we went at 1030AM-High Mass with choir singing.
