- MICK ENewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom80 contributionsGreat for Food & a Beer.Situated near the river as you enter/exit the main market square this establishment is the closest thing you’ll get to the perfect traditional German pub. As a group supporting England we spent two days at this comfortable pub & seemed to be the only ones drinking out of Pint glasses as opposed to plastic ones. The food was lovely and the waitress service was fantastic. I would highly recommend.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 June 2024
- Johno82Wolverhampton, United Kingdom121 contributionsBig stationBig busy station. Lots of food shops to choose from German trains are usually delayed :( Lots of bars and restaurants near by. Trains are free 90% of the time lolVisited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 29 June 2024
- FTMDaveAdria, Italy7,625 contributionsGreat organisationEverything worked like clockwork, departure boards, signs, etc. I took advantage of the left luggage lockers. The S-bahn is treated as part of the main station, some S-bahn trains leave from the normal platforms and for some you follow the signs to extra platforms below.Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten 10 July 2024
- Kelly BIowa5,470 contributionsBig stationQuite a large station, with a few levels. The bottom level with the local trains can really get congested. Signage is good though, and it’s easy to find what platform you need. I’d highly recommend downloading the DB app. There are some mentally ill/addicts/homeless people about, but they typically just look for empty cans and bottles.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 August 2024
- Brendan DCounty Dublin, Ireland105 contributionsStation supports both subway and trains to all major German cities.Busy station which accommodates both subway & suburban trains. We took the train to Heidelberg and utilised the automated ticket machines which provided us with frequency of trains departing/ arriving both stations. Signposting and support by way of information is good. There are a myriad of food and beverage outlets as well as other retail outlets.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 September 2024

The station is cluttered and noisy and rather poorly set out and its hard to find anyone to ask questions or to get assistance. There are some food outlets at the station but they seemed overpriced and you would be better off going out into the streets and getting food there.
Aesthetically it wasn't impressive in anyway and all I can say is its location is handy but not much else

Beautiful train station but not very good at customer service. Perception of Germans not being very friendly towards tourist was very noticeable not sure if it was because it was on Christmas Day or they were having a bad day. I bought three tickets at the kiosk to the airport I thought I purchased them correctly. I asked an officer where to catch the train to the airport he pointed out only one ticket was correct. Went to customer service was told that I did not buy the correct tickets, asked for an exchange and was told in a demeanor tone no since I bought it at the kiosk it could not be exchanged, I asked her if I can buy the tickets from her and was not to happy. The train was even more stressful poor guy was accidentally hitting the handicap button for assistance with his luggage and the conductor said something on the loud speaker in German nobody understood, conductor came over and started to yell at him to move his luggage in German. Ever been yelled at in German, it’s even scarier than in Spanish and I speak Spanish.

As part of an escorted rail tour of Germany, we ended up three times in Frankfurth HBF, during the coronavirus period, and during a humid heatwave.
Somehow, the very high and wide glass roof keeps the station at a comfortable temperature despite the blazing sun.
On our first visit, our connecting train was over an hour late, so having First Class tickets, we were able to rest in the socially distanced First Class Lounge, high above the concourse, with excellent views of the tracks, and complimentary snacks and drinks.
There are ample food outlets, to suit all national tastes, plus public toilets with showers, and dozens of Left Luggage lockers. Platforms 22/23 & 24 have plenty of vacant seating if you want somewhere to seat and eat your snack whilst watching the trains come and go.

In addition to being a major transit hub, the station is also impressive from an architectural standpoint. It looks particularly good at night, from across the street, and you really get a feel for its overall size. We took U-Bahn, S-Bahn, regional, and long-distance trains out of this station, and they do a decently good job on keeping you informed about where to go depending on your mode of travel. We also visited the travel information office located within the station to get some local maps.

Being "illeterates" in Germany, train station has clear information with announcements in English. Though the train eventually came on the opposite platform, it was clear. There are quite a few shops and eateries. Place looked safe.

I use the station more than any other in Germany but the only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because 1) I've been to Berlin's Hauptbahnhof (although it's new), and 2) I've been to other stations in Germany and for Frankfurt HBF to be the second busiest in Germany and the station DB calls the most important, they look as if they don't care about it's appearance. The station is beautiful outside but needs serious updating inside. The lower level mall looks very dirty and uninviting with some of the spillage of characters from the entertainment district outside of the station flowing through. The main level is also not so pleasant but you feel a bit safer. I did read an article recently that said these will be addressed this year with a 4 year renovation so it's good that DB has taken notice. The good things are that you can basically get anywhere from the station within the Frankfurt Rhein-Main Region as well as Germany. So easy to travel from here and it is easy to find your way around the station and get to where you need to be going. Still one of my favorite stations in Germany but I can't wait to see the upgrades in 2024.

Nice big railwaystation which was bright enough on the inside. And I didn't have to look hard to find tv-screens with the announcements of departures of trains. Bonus is that there are several places where one can buy a snack for a quick meal, convenient if one hasn't much time between transfer of trains.

We arrived at this main station from Amsterdam by train. It is beautiful inside, very architectural worked. They have small train station and train models inside acrylic boxes. Kids love it.
Also, if you are traveling to anywhere in Europe by train this is where you will embark.

It is clear that Frankfurt is intent on cleaning up the Main Train station. It used to smell of urine and have people and drug users sleeping all over the place. I am definitely starting to notice a difference and feel more safe when here.

Is there any lockers to keep luggage in the train station? I would like to go city walk for one day and then take train to Switzerland. Thanks
Written 14 October 2023
Yes, there are lockers of different sizes for different rates. Read the locker instructions before putting euros in. I used them at every HBF during my day trips. The most I ever spent was €6. Have fun!

I'm going to move from Frankfurt Main Station to Zurich Central Station.
But I heard that the remodeling work will be carried out at Frankfurt Main Station.
I'm going to visit Frankfurt Main Station on April 11th and April 15th.
Will there be any problems with my use of Frankfurt main Station in April?

I don't have a credit card. I have only 50 euro notes. Do RMV machines accept notes for a journey from Frankfurt airport to Frankfurt hbf?

Is there car rental agencies right there near the train station ? If they are not on site is there shuttles that get you there like at the airport?
Written 16 June 2019
Yes there are car rental agencies, and there shuttles/underground/trains that will take you to anywhere in Germany very easily!

What is the best train to take to get from Frankfurt Airport to Freiburg? Is there a train station I can use in the airport?
Written 12 June 2019
There is a TRAIN STATION at FRANKFURT AIRPORT .
You need to use regional train.
Frankfurt (Main) to Freiburg (Breisgau) Hbf
ICE 107 DB DIRECT TRAIN (2h 7m )
Departs at 13:52 Frankfurt (M) Flughafen Fernbf
Arrives at 15:59 Freiburg (Breisgau) Hbf

How do I get to the train to Nuremberg from Frankfurt airport? Hard to find?
Written 17 February 2019
Ask for direction to the Fernbahnhof from the airport terminal to catch the Inter City Express or ICE.
Don't confuse Fernbahnhof with Regionalbahnhof where you take S-Bahn trains for nearer destinations.
