Take the gondola lift up to the top and as well as the monument there are beautiful views of the Rhine and town of Rudesheim. There is a restaurant/café (which sells alcohol too) between the cable car and monument where you can sit outside in...More
We are fortunate to have friends that live across the river, in Bingen. They suggested that this would be a good idea. They were definitely right!
We took an early cruise and we're able to beat the heat of the day. Our friends were able...More
We loved Rudesheim. There was a cable car ride up to the monument which made it so fun. It was Christmas time and so there was a Christmas market to visit, santa's riding the cable cars, etc. The view was breathtaking from the monument. Definitely...More
We had a lovely trip to the monument in the cable car and then a walk around the area. It was really nice. The monument is amazing, much larger than you imagine when you get up close to it. Well worth a visit.
Taking the buckets up the hill is a wise investment to see this impressive post-war monument. It is a great place for walking in good weather, and you can stroll through the vineyards all the way back down to Ruedisheim.
We went up by the Seilbahn. This is supposed to be an important monument for the German people. The Germania monument is large & impressive. We took in the view from the heights, saw the Temple and walked about a kilometre through the Niederwald to...More
Cable car is a nice ride to the top of the hill. The views are amazing. At time of visit it cost €8 each for both directions. Check times as they differ during the year due to day light.

There are two ways to go up the monument. You can either take the cable car or walk up the meandering vineyards for a beautiful view over Rhein. The Monument uphill was erected to commemorate the unification of Germany. Highly recommended particularly on a fine...More
We got there by car - no problems finding it, ample parking (for a fee). Walk the short stretch to the monument and enjoy the spectacular views over the vineyards and the Rhine valley. Small visitor centre next to the cable car station with reasonably...More

I cannot say for positive, but we went up the cable car from Rudesheim, hiked to the area above Assmannhausen, and took the chairlift down. I saw two dogs on chairs coming up, so they have to go down also. Of course it is possible that those with dogs went back down the chairlift and did not use the cable car, but they also may have used the cable car to descend with their dogs.

The gondolien is indeed for two Persons but it is comfortable. We visited the place outside the peak tourist season and did not need to queuing for the ticket office. July might be different. Better to reserve time for that or check out if the have online booking which could make it quicker. If you have time it is also nice to walk back instead taking the gondola. On the walking trip back to the village you see lovely wine fields and a monastery with their winery.
