The little tourist town of Rudesheim us usually very crowded and can get old pretty quickly, so for a peaceful retreat, take the cable car up to the monument and enjoy the views. You can ride back down as well, but we enjoyed the peaceful walk through the vineyards.

You can walk up to the monument, but taking the gondola cars is more scenic and relaxing. The monument celebrates a victory over the French in the war of 1870, and is teutonic is every respect. You can see this monument for many miles along the river, and besides the monument itself, the views are spectacular. A side note. I... More

Ok - we had the perfect day. But still you can enjoy a fantastic view even on nearly each and every day of the year

It sits on a hill above Rudesheim. It overlooks the valley of the Rhine and was built in the 1870/80s to commemorate the Unification of Germany. The views from on top are outstanding. You can walk or drive up or better yet...take the Seilbahn which is what I did! It was fun and saved me an hour walk!

I walked to the monument from Rudesheim, it took approx one hour. This is well worth a visit, it is huge. There are good views back to Rudesheim and the Rhein, certainly worth the climb. There is a cable car available but only runs from 11 AM, cost is 5 Euro one way or 7 for return. Recommended.

This is a nice, large monument. The subject is not of much interest to non-Germans. There are great views of the Rhine from the monument. Very worthwhile.

High up above Ruedesheim, the Rhine and vineyards is this very impressive monument built to commemorate the Unification of Germany. It can be reached by car, on foot or by cable car if you are on tour and have limited time. The site worth visiting for the views let alone its historical significance.

Most people will visit this place for its great view over the Rhine valley, or as a starting/terminal point for a walk from/to Assmanshausen. Using the two cable cars in Rüdesheim and Assmannshausen, this is an easy walk for all ages. History buffs will prepare by informing themselves about the monument and its background, and see it as the monument... More

The Niederwald Monument is a majestic statue, over 30 feet tall and is located in Niederwald landscape park. It overlooks the valley of the Rhine and was built in the 1870/80s to commemorate the Unification of Germany. Use the Seilbahn to make a trip from the ground station to the landscape park. The gondola ride is superb. You ride over... More
