Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An impressive building dominating the town main square. It is well worth a lokk inside to examine the architecture (and use the free toilet facilities!). The extension to the side is modern but sympathetic in construction.

Our first port of call on our trip to Rostock, the story of the snake on the outside is just part of the history, the inside is a large interior which shows the development of the building which was 3 separate buildings which have become 1. The original has the wooden beams and pillars and is worth the step inside.

The Rostock city hall is easily recognisable by its rosa coloured facades. It is located at Neuer Markt, the New Market Square.

Done up with a Hanseatic style roofline and backed by an ornamental wooden roofline (weird!), the imposing building majestically commands the main square surrounded by less imposing structures, but all reflecting those distinctive (Amsterdam) styles dating back to the medieval epoch. Colorful spot with fountains, statues, a lively spot to people watch!

The Rathaus (town hall) right in the historic Hanseatic center of Rostock, is a very impressive 13th century building (oldest preserved in Rostock) composed of 3 buildings combined by a gothic façade. It has been rebuild and extended several times over the years but is still quite an imposing bit of architecture.

While our cruise ship was berthed in the port of Rostock for the day, we visited the town of Rostock during the afternoon.
We spent some time shopping in Kropeliner Strasse which is a long pedestrian mall and then we made our way to the end of the long street to where Neuer Markt, the town square is situated.
It was late in the afternoon on a Saturday and there were lots of people enjoying themselves at various outdoor cafes scattered around the square. The market stalls which had been trading in the square were in the process of being packed up for the day.
So, instead of shopping, we made do with admiring the quaint architecture of the various buildings surrounding the square.
We were particularly taken with the attractive and appealing pink town hall (Rathaus). Its large size, elegant architecture and pink and white colour scheme made it stand out amongst the other unique and interesting buildings situated in the square.
As it was a Saturday and because of the pressure of time, we did not have the opportunity to venture inside. Instead, we just had to make do with admiring and photographing this fine public building from the square
It is certainly a “must see” building for any tourist spending time in Rostock!
