Awesome Clock

The church is having old architecture design. The main attraction is the huge clock, it's worth watching. Never seen one like this before. Must see if you are in Rostock.

St. Mary’s Church, located in Rostock, is a large gothic church constructed of bricks. It contains a very interesting astronomical clock & a very impressive organ . There is no fee to enter the church but a donation (euro and a half) is requested. Also not to be missed are the impressive stained glass windows and the intricately carved 16th... More

Despite ongoing renovation work, this is a fascinating church with many ancient treasures. The stained glass above the entrance (and elsewhere) is beautiful. The building itself, probably due to the renovations, feels a bit "maze-like", with a new surprise around each corner, an amazing astronomical clock, some interesting tapestries and an organ which, were it not so old, could have... We went at 2 PM to see the characters moving around on the astronomical clock - but apparently it is not working properly now. It did chime, but no moving people. A woman from the church appeared about 5 min before the hour and explained something in German, and people started dispersing. We stayed and got to hear the clock... More

We visited the Church on a Sunday, when not a lot of other things are open. It was well worth a visit, a beautiful historic place.

We visited this church and were surprised at the works inside. It was apparently not badly damaged during the war and contains an old astronomical clock installed in 1472. Also listened to some beautiful music as the organist practised for a service - very spiritual.

If you want to see that amazing astronomical clock, you have to be there on the hour, then you can see apostle-go-round which was designed and built hundreds of years ago.

The main reason for visiting was to see the Astronomical Clock, but the church is worth visiting anyway. There are some very interesting features elsewhere in the church. The clock was very impressive. We didn't worry too much about how it worked, it was interesting just to see it. Apparently, it has the dates of Easter up to about 2017,... More

Probably the must see attraction in Rostock, fabulous building with some really ornate interior fittings and the astronomical clock. Well worth the visit although can get busy so requires some time and patience.

Our main motive to visit the Church was the Astronomic Clock, The Clock is inside the Sankt Marien Church. The Church itself has its own charm with a large Organ. When we visited come parts of the Church were under Repair. We experienced the Huge Astronomic clock. You really need some one to explain how the clock works. We had... More
