Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The original Sterntor in Bonn was built around 1244 at the end of the Sternstraße, but was demolished in 1898 - despite intervention by Kaiser Wilhelm II - in order to better design the traffic flow. It was not until 1900 that a replacement structure under the same name was created, offset by a few meters.
It consists partly of remains of the former star gate, otherwise of a remnant of the city wall and its only surviving half-circular tower and thus bears only a slight resemblance to the original at the time.

I don’t fully understand some of the rave reviews for Sterntor—it is a re-assembly / reproduction (using some of the original bricks, it must be said) of a 13th century wall, relocated in 1898 and bumped up against another ancient remnant, a tower. At some point a gate was added. There is no public access to the tower.
While Sterntor does provide some general idea of the construction of edifices from the middle-ages it lacks true authenticity and the more modern architecture surrounding it further dilutes its impact. In size, it seemed to us to be about a basketball court in length; there is a portcullis to walk under to get to the back side of the structure (and the stores directly behind it), where there are two alcoves that the public may look at through bars but may not enter.
So we have a kluged together structure made up of disparate parts set in a commercial center and surrounded by shops and cafes and outdoor seating. I'm not sure where the idea that it is impressive--it actually seems a little bit sad and lost among the city surrounding it. It’s certainly worth a stop and stare—it’s relatively easy to locate in the city center, though its size may make it somewhat difficult to see from a distance. At night it is prettily lit.
Expect to spend less than thirty minutes (unless you choose to eat next to it), don't expect history to come alive and certainly don't expect to learn anything unless you study before hand: we found nothing that would 'educate' us about the structure at Sterntor...

The original Sterntor was built around 1244 at the end of the Sternstraße and was part of the medieval city fortification.
At the end of the 19th century, the former city fortification gate was demolished, in order to improve the traffic flow.
Two years later, a replacement building under the same name was built at its current location. It consists only partly of remnants of the former Sterntors, otherwise from remains of the city wall and an old half-tower.
When walking (or shopping) in central Bonn, you cannot miss this 'gate'.

The original Sterntor was built sometime around 1244 at the end of the Sternstrasse and was part of the mediaeval city fortifications. In 1898 it was demolished. 2 years later, in 1900, the "new" Sterntor was rebuilt just a few metres away at its present location near Bottlerplatz using some stones from the original gate and from the old city wall. As such, it is quite an interesting structure. There are also numerous cafes and bistros nearby and the fountain in front of the Sterntor is very popular with children on warm summer days. Worth a visit, if you are in the area.

It looks nice in the center of the city. Around it are different shops. But the gate itself is nothing too special.

The Sterntor city gate at the edge of Bottlerplatz provides reminders of Bonn's fortifications in the Middle Ages.
The original Sterntor from the 13th century stood a few metres from its current site. In 1898 it was pulled down to accommodate the increasing traffic in the city. The current Sterntor has therefore moved to its new location and incorporates the remains of the original.
Nice historic spot monument

Really not that spectacular place to visit. You can take some pictures infront of it, and in December there´s the best place to dring "Glühwein" on the whole christmas market right infront of it, but thats pretty much it.

It is just a small piece of the old Bonner Wall, but it is very well preserved and a beautiful site for a Souvenir picture of Bonn
