Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The botanical garden of Bonn is one of my favorite places to visit over and over. With its wide selection of plants, it’s a one of a kind botanical garden. It’s not so big, which makes it good for me, so I can go around easily in one day, not worrying about missing out parts of it!
I love the cute animals which also live in the garden.
There is also a nice Cafeteria which you can enjoy a cup of coffee or even a meal after visiting the garden!
It’s beautiful in it’s own way in each season.

The best way to visit this buildings is to approach on foot down the Poppelsdorf Allee. This is a beautiful wide road with very little traffic and an area of grass in the middle. The palace is at the end and the allee goes on and on with the palace gradually becoming bigger.

We would consider this to be the second attraction in Bonn, after the Beethovenhaus, from a historical perspective. If you have any interest in understanding something about the history of Bonn and the role of the archbishops of Cologne, then you should devote at least a little time to a visit. Between 1597 and 1794, Bonn was the capital of a state known as the Electorate of Cologne, a powerful entity among the many German states of the time. The Electors made it their residence and while maybe this is not Versailles, it is still impressive. The Electors were patrons of Beethoven, so there is a connection to the Beethovenhaus. The gardens are quite beautiful and worth a stroll, especially if the weather cooperates. If you like Baroque architecture, there is much to see here. Parking in all of Bonn is something of a challenge, the palace is no exception, but the walk will give you the opportunity to actually see the palace from a variety of viewpoints. The largest garages are in the Altstadt, a good hike from the Palace (along the Poppelsdorfer Allee). Finding street parking depends on the day of the week and the time of day. The botanical gardens are worth some time, and a stroll down towards the university along the well landscaped and manicured Poppelsdorfer Allee will introduce you to the best side of Bonn.

...it makes it a wonderful experience! During the pause, you can sip on your champaigne and walk around the garden... you won't regret it!

I can't really review Poppelsdorf Palace as we drove there, and couldn't find any parking anywhere near it. Might be something to bear in mind if you are visiting with a car.

It looked nice from the outside though!

Thankfully it was only a short walk here from my hotel. The palace is under renovation, and it now houses University offices, so there's not a great deal of interest for the tourist. I'm guessing the grounds would be beautiful in the spring.

This imposing building has seen better days, at least based on the appearance of the exterior. It has been turned into an office building so the stop-and-stare factor is at play here. It is pretty enough, from a distance, to be appealing and it is set in a lovely spot in Bonn that includes both a river to cross over and large flowering trees to walk beneath. Its principle purpose now, at least as far as we could ascertain, is to demark the Botanical Gardens that surround the building.

The rating is strictly for the Palace itself, with an extra star for the pleasing walk; we found the surrounding gardens to be of much greater interest. Without the gardens, this would be nothing but a check-off location.

Located in the heart of Bonn is a beautiful palace, Poppelsdorf. This is an 18th century palace features baroque style architecture. The palace is now part of the University of Bonn and is home to their Mineralogical-Petrological Museum. The former palace gardens have been developed into lovely botanical style gardens and are among the oldest in the world. These beautiful gardens host summer concerts for classical music. Be sure and check out the lovely historical homes on the Poppelsdorf Allee a “boulevard” just up from the gardens.

We were lucky to get tickets for an open air classical concert in the courtyard of the Palace. Great accustics, fine soloist! Wonderful evening.

It's a great place for a walk, lay a blanket on the green and lazily watch people walk by. The avenue leading up to the Palace has a small bookshelf where people can drop books and pick a new one up.
