    Grand day out
A nice zoo with plenty to keep the family amused. For little ones, borrow a small cart capable of transporting two or three toddlers with ease. Play spaces also ensure young children can run / climb themselves ragged before finishing off at a petting zoo. For everyone else get ready for a decent walk around an enjoyable zoo, easily accessible by public transport from Cologne’s main station (the U-Bahn stops immediately outside the zoo, so save yourself the hassle of driving). It’s easy to spend three or four hours here, so don’t scrimp on the time you commit to your visit. If you want to see various feeding times, plan ahead and be prepared to scurry around the venue. If you’d rather just go with the flow, there’s signage aplenty to guide you around and ensure you see everything you want to see.

    Amazing - well worth visiting
Spent 4.5 hours here today. Very good day out. Well worth the entry fee. You can walk around some of the enclosures where the aminals roam free which is great. There is loads to see here plus the aquarium opposite which was included in the ticket price. Definitely the best zoo I've been too.

Raining but still a good day.
Good day, i paid 23 euro, 11 for my 11 year old. Lots of animals and as it was raining and late October the zoo wasn’t busy which was great. My daughter loved it as lots of indoor bits to explore. Only slight problem was the lack of concessions open but it was raining and late october.

Nice afternoon visit. Due to COVID19 measures you need to first make a free online reservation for a time slot (9-12 or 12-18). Afterwords, you can buy a ticket which is valid for three years. So should you need to cancel your reservation, you still have plenty of time to visit.

This zoo is your typical ‘old zoo turned in to city zoo’ zoo. It’s not to big. Some animals could be in bigger enclose it’s, but it’s certainly not Artis Amsterdam which has some of the smallest animal enclosures I’ve seen in a Western European zoo. I find that very sad to see.

Some exhibitions are very nice (the elephant enclosure, for instance. It’s very large). Surprisingly, this zoo holds the most species of bears I’ve ever seen in a zoon including a grizzly bear.

Even with the reserved time slots it was quite busy. Germans aren’t really respecting social distancing and there was no staff around to monitor what crowds were doing. At some exhibitions, you needed to wear a mask. I donr know if it was the false sense of security a face masks gives the wearer, but people came even closer to one another with masks. I always thought Germans were very strict when it comes to adhering to rules. Apparently they’re not. If you take into consideration the fact that a lot things were closed due to COVID19 (the restaurant, most of the food stands, the aquarium), it doesn’t really make sense if people are disregarding all the rules the zoo wants them to follow.

Anyway, we had a nice visit. But if I’m honest, I don’t think it’s an extraordinary zoo. Is it worth a visit when you’re in Cologne? Yes! I think so.

In regard to parking, you should consider that the Parkhaus am Zoo is almost prehistoric. Very tight parking spots, no lifts (since a lot of Delors with children in prams and strollers visit, this is a rather big flaw) and last but not least: you cannot pay by cards so bring cash. When it comes to card payments, Germany still has to advance to the 21st century, unfortunately. So come prepared!

This city zoo is in walking distance of the city center. It's small, but big enough with small children. Good stuff: elephants, big cats, big apes, and hippopotamus! Many of the animal living spaces are currently under construction, the food and snack corners are all closed, and the animal shows are canceled during winter (birds of prey and sealions for example). The aquarium has a few tanks, but is mostly filled with turtles and amphibians.

I visited the ZOO on an April Wednesday. True, it was a nice day but I still did not expect that the ZOO would be so awfully over-crowded. There was not only the queue at the entry but the whole ZOO looked like one big queue. 100 persons watching any single animal - some of these animals seemed genuinely stressed. I fully shared their feeling and did not enjoy the visit at all. I give up visiting all the pavillions, as there was an incredible mass of people there. Most of the visitors were, as it could be expected, familes with small kids, so there was also terrible noise everywhere. I left the ZOO after 1 hour thinking, there were more meaningful ways to spend 23 euro. Never again.

The zoo was amazing. So big and so many animals to see. There is a lot of shade and beautiful places to take pictures. Parking is right across the street and if you bring your ticket you can get it stamped and parking would only be €4. There is also an aquarium right next to the zoo. Definitely recommend to families.

We visited the zoo at opening at 9.00 am on a rainy Monday morning. Turned out perfectly for us as we we were usually the only ones at each exhibit so we had plenty of time to relax and watch the animals. I have been to many zoos and wildlife parks and this was definitely one of the better. Despite the rain the animals were usually able to be viewed in their indoor heated enclosures which was perfect for us. Most enclosures were quite spacious but some do need upgrading. There is also an amazing playground for children. Imagine this is why it’s so busy in warmer months. The aquarium was an added bonus. Overall our experience was fantastic.

We did not have long at Cologne zoo but we all really enjoyed it (our children are 6 and 8).

They have a great selection of animals, including hippos, giraffes, elephants and rhino.

The enclosures could be a bit bigger, but overall looks like a well kept zoo. Would recommend.

The zoo just seemed tired and the animals were depressed and lifeless. Wheelchair access was good with toilets throughout although a seat was loose on one of them. Lots of kids everywhere running around hysterically. If you’re in cologne for a couple of days I would skip.

We went to see the China Lights and visit the zoo. We did not budget enough time to see all the animals but had tons of fun. The Apes and Elephants were awesome. After dark the China Lights were AMAZING. A bit expensive for adults but worth it!

We walked to the zoo from the centre (by the cathedral) along the river. It took us about 30 minutes but was a nice walk. There’s also a train that goes back and forth to the centre too.
The zoo is great! Very flat, so much to see. Some great animals. Would highly recommend.
