    Locks ,locks and more locks
Wasn’t planning on visiting but what the heck . Could not find space for a new lock on this bride .I call it a bridge of love . Locks cover the railings along the entire length of the bridge . Lots of trains passing over the bridge .

    A lot of Locks
This bridge was amazing. It is also called Love Lock Bridge and it is where people place a lock to show their commitment and love and throw the ket over into the Rhine River. It is amazing how many locks are on this bridge. The bridge had to be reinforced to hold the weight of the locks.

Iconic view. No, really, it actually is.
Iconic is a very over-used term these days but the view of Cologne from the SE side of the Hohelzollern Bridge might just be described as that. The bridge and the cathedral are a spectacular juxtaposition of old and new, steel and stone, motion and rest, and that's without the twinkling extravaganza of a million padlocks lining the pedestrian bridges on either side of the tracks. An unexpected and delightful pleasure.

    Hohenzollen Bridge
Just past the cathedral in Cologne is this famous bridge.. I crossed it on the ICE train from Berlin to Cologne, In fact most trains from Regional to High Speed cross this bridge, And I walked from the cathedral side and back, It took me aprox after resting, 45 mins, But well worth it. Stunning views over the Rhine..Also when I went on a 1hr boat trip you go underneath this marvellous bridge. When I crossed it you see thousends of padlocks that symbolises Love.. And there were one or two statues as well next to it..

A Few Tips About the Hohenzollern Bridge
This walking bridge over the Rhine is just a fun place to visit. It is estimated that there are over 500,000 “love locks.” Although I wonder if anyone has actually counted? The authorities have no fear that their bridge will hold up. The tradition of “love locks” actually came from Italy. The walking bridge is over 500 feet long. The other part of the bridge is a railway bridge which has become the busiest rail bridge in Germany with 1,200 trains daily. A short distance away is the famous Cologne Cathedral which dates back to the 13th century. It is the tallest twin-spired church in the entire world. A 2023 segment of the Amazing Race was filmed at the walking bridge when contestants had to find a specific lock among all the other locks. Then, they had to open up the lock to get a clue. The contestants had to find the name of Cologne’s oldest cologne dating back to 1799 to open up the lock. Named after its location, cologne “4711” is still used today. During WWII, the German Navy gave 4711 to their submariners to suppress the smells on the vessels. The submariners would use part of the cologne and bring the rest back for gifts. If you are so inclined on having a love lock placed on the bridge, there is usually a vendor close by that will sell you a lock and engrave it too. Koln- pleasantly surprised
Pleasantly surprised during our first visit to Koln. It is a lovely city with friendly people, good restaurants and an awesome vibe. The cathedral is magnificent and a visit to the Koln triangle is also worth it. It is easy to walk everywhere and feels safe. We tired the brauhous and lives the experience. Christmas markets were the best - practically in every corner with good live music, delicious food and a wonderful crowd.

    Nice walk over
This is the main bridge by train into Cologne Central Station and leads from one side of the river to the other. It is also how you can get to Cologne Triangle. The pedestrian walkway is filler with padlocks, amazing how many there are. I even saw a man at the start selling them, not sure if he was writing names on too. The walk over is lovely and gives a great view of the river and looking back to the old town. On the other side there are a few places to eat and drink and you are also able to walk along this side of the river.

Another cool piece of architecture in the Cologne area. Passed over it on the way in and easy to see all the padlocks spread across the bridge.

The most famous bridge in Cologne is undoubtedly Hohenzollern Brucke.
We arrived after a four night holiday in Dusseldorf for a week's holiday in Cologne by train and entered the city over this bridge over the River Rhine, its an impressive bridge that more or less survived the destruction of World War Two, repeated air raids did no significant damage to the bridge but with the advance of the Allied forces the German Army blew up this river crossing that was repaired post war ,famous for the tens of thousands of love locks that adorn the bridge, I personally hate them ,they are terrible for the environment, at both ends of the bridge are four magnificent equestrian statues,Kaiser Wilhelm IV,Kaiser Wilhelm I,Kaiser Friedrich III and the Kaiser Wilhelm II Statue ,walking across this bridge is superb, great views of both sides of the river and the River Rhine itself, all in all its a great bridge to check out if you're planning a holiday to Cologne.

I would say it is a nice bridge, however, what is more impressive is walking alongside the river, having a laugh, a talk, observing all the birds flying near the Rhine, and perceiving the bridge from a distance.

We now have a lovelock on the bridge. A railway bridge over a river shouldn't be so interesting but the locks give it a personality, give it that something different.
