OMGOODNESS! What an awesome, beautiful place...what a great place to just enjoy the sights, sounds and good eating. We walked around Old Town enjoying the beautiful old buildings and statutes. Visited the Cathedral...WOW! SO WORTH VISTING!!! Even our 3 grands 12, 10 and 8 were impressed!! 😅

    Peaceful and Beautiful
I am one who enjoys the sights, colors, and people of Europe's historic Old Towns. They are usually the first stop on my itinerary . The cafes, architecture, and streets take me to another time and place. People watching enhances my experience because I wonder what they do, where they are going, and who they are. Additionally, many of the sights and museums are generally near the Old Towns. Enjoy a lunch or drink of choice and plan your next stop in the area.

    Worth a visit
We almost skipped Old Town Cologne - we had spent the morning at the Cathedral, walked across the Rhein, and were about to head back to Bonn (our hotel) when we decided that the Old Town was close by. We thoroughly enjoyed it - nice shops, some good food, streets that had character and felt less like a big city. It was a thoroughly enjoyable time!

The Alstadt is a vibrant part of town full of local culture . You would be hard pressed to miss it if visiting the area and we happened to pass through during Karnevale when the whole city took to the streets.

During World War Two 90% of the city of Cologne was obliterated by continuous Allied air raids ,the Altstadt ( Old Town ) ceased to exist ,so many beautiful buildings lost but post war planners working from original design plans reconstructed portions of the Altstadt including the 12 famous Romanesque churches that were severely damaged or destroyed, they did a great job ,visiting the likes of Huemarkt or Neumarkt are amazing square's to visit ,architecture is amazing ,we are currently in Cologne over the Christmas period, its lovely enjoying beers, gluhwein and reibekuchen in the famous Altstadt Christmas markets ,the buildings, the pubs, bars, cafe's and restaurants, its just an amazing area of this vibrant city to visit if you're planning a holiday to Cologne.

A must see place. There are lots of parking lots. We parked in one right by the cathedral. We walked all around the town. It is very beautiful.

This area is why I love Köln. So very pretty, but at night it comes to life in a way very few other cities do. A absolute must visit.

This was the first time we had been to Cologne in the summer. Normally we have been there in the winter snow! Really interesting buildings.

The old town is not very big, but the area around the cathedral and bridge over the Rhine was very nice to see.
We walked all the way back to the chocolate museum.
The tourist info next to the square is super helpful.
There are many many tourists and unfortunately many beggars.
