Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Looking for a quick drink and a snack on a very hot day in Cologne and stumbled into this gem. Our server (sorry didn’t catch his name) and his coworker Tim, served a perfect beer and cheese and bread snack with speed out running a afternoon rain. With so many beer stops we were lucky to get our Kölsch fix here!

During our walking. tour we passed the bronze monument of the two Cologne originals Tünnes and Schäl.
By rubbing The large nose of Tünnes it apparently bring luck. As a result of all the rubbing it has become shiny.
Just great for a photo stop.

This sculpture stands in tribute to two characters from the puppet theatre tradition of Cologne. The sculptures are cartoonish and to be honest, unless you’re immersed in the local culture, I can only say that they’re okay.

We were on an AMA waterways river cruise and ported in Cologne for the day. Our tour guide was Marcus from Berlin. He was most likely one of the best tour guides we've ever had. He was a history teacher so extremely knowledgeable on culture, politics and geography PLUS he was super funny! Right when we started he stated to beware of the bicyclists since they will "run you over then ring their bell to celebrate"! If you can seek him out somehow, I promise it will be worth it! He provides a nice active walking tour around the city and will gear your visit to your interests. The City square with Martin Church, Brussels Bridge with all the padlocks, Town Hall Gothic Tower and photo stop at Tunnes & Schal statues & Josef Frings. At the Tunnes & Schal statues you step on their feet and rub his round nose for "good luck".

Tucked in a small square, a great photo op and delightful. Free standing metal statues with a comical conversation between them.

Located at the back entrance of a pub called not surprisingly Tünnes Und Schäl is this set of statue's in honour of two proper Cologne characters who never existed .
Invented by Johann Cristoph Winter ( 1772-1862 ) these two characters are legends in Cologne, the Tûnnes character constantly gets taken for a ride by the crafty Schäl character ,think they were also puppet characters as Johann Cristoph Winter was the owner of a puppet theatre, they're wonderful statue's that are most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the Old Town of Cologne and easy to locate along Eisenmarkt.

In a small square behind the Great Saint Martin Church, you’ll find bronze statues representing the legendary Cologne characters of Tünnes and Schäl.
The "originals" were puppets that first appeared at the Hänneschen Theater as early as 1810-1830, but had a life outside the stage in magazines, newspaper articles and jokes.
The good-natured Tünnes and his skinnier companion Schäl are said to personify many traits of Cologne citizens.
It is said that rubbing the bulbous nose of Tunnes will bring good luck. His proboscis has been shined from the many hands gripping it. Holding the hand of Schäl is supposed to bring good fortune but it appears that most people have handled his nose as well.

These character statues represent the two sides of Cologne; the civilized and the barbarians; the good and the bad.
Stand on the feet and be sure to rub the nose for good luck - or just because you should.

I came across these two fictional characters while on a brew house tour with friends. They have some funny stories, and of course if you stand on their feet and rub either of them on the nose, you are wishing for luck in your love life or financial life
