Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a great tour with a very knowledgeable, entertaining, and nice guide. Even though I used to live close to Cologne and know the city fairly well, I still learned a lot, from streetart to local trivia and carnival customs. Of course a tour can't cover all areas of Cologne in two hours, but I can definitely recommend it as a good starting point for your discovery journey.

Thanks to Corona times, my girlfriend and I were the only participants and nevertheless (or because if it?!) we got a fully engaged and fun tour. Thanks a lot!

Thanks so much for joining! We're glad we could show you a good time in the city and give you those little hints you missed out on. You'd be surprised how many locals are surprised by the things the don't know! Thanks for the review!

I've done quite a lot of these free/tipped walking tours in all sorts of places and this was definitely one of the best. I don't normally bother to review them, but Kristina was a fantastic guide, very funny and engaging! Genuinely feel like I got to know the character of the city – a good mix of hilarious anecdotes, history, and stuff we'd never have noticed on our own, all knitted together really well with good humour and an engaging style. She really didn't miss a beat and we definitely appreciated the city a lot more afterwards! Absolutely recommended

Thanks Jake! We’re very happy to hear that you liked what we do. We always want to make sure the true sides of Cologne come through and it sounds like another one of our amazing guides could do that for you!

This tour was probably my best free walking tour since ever. Mike, our tour guide, was super friendly and funny. He gave us the most relevant and funny information about the various sights on our way - information you can remember very well and do not forget an hour later. It was not just history but an introduction into the culture and spirit of the city.
Also the way we walked was very well chosen and even though it took us 2,5 hours, it was definetly not too long or borring at any time.

Our guide Jorge was good and humorous, however the content of the 2.5 hour walk was rather random. I was expecting more history in terms of where we met (at the historic gate, such as why there was a gate) and the city in general. There was history, but the focus was on very specific details such as the boat on the gate where we met and the symbols on the city shield. Could have skipped the art mural by the cathedral, the lengthy stories could have been condensed and the tour could have been shortened to 1.5 hours. I ended up doing four different walking tours in different cities and this was the most disappointing. Unfortunately this was the first tour we did on our trip and our teen was completely bored/turned off from doing more walking tours after this one.

Hi and thank you for the feedback, All reviews are considered and used to improve our tours in the future. Our mantra from the beginning has been to not just be another walking tour but rather to show what makes Cologne a different and interesting place. While different guides may dive into history more than others, no matter what we include the basic tenants of our city’s past. Not only that, anyone can read a Wikipedia page. We want to show you what makes Cologne special. Stories like the mural, for instance, show the sides of our city that most tourists don’t access (the importance of bananas, our art culture and more). The length of our tour and its content is laid our not only in our reviews on this platform but also clearly all across our media platforms and website. It’s unfortunate that we didn’t meet your expectations, however it seems we stuck closely to our goal of showing our groups what makes Cologne different and worthwhile, not just another city. Kind regards, The Freewalk Cologne Staff

We had Steve giving the walking tour and he was very informative, and gave a very interesting tour. The tour took us around some historic places around the city, including the Cathedral and underground car park to see the hidden foundations of the walls of the city. We asked questions along the route which were answered with humour and local knowledge.

A nice tour with a good mixture of historical information and more recent facts, brought with a good sense of humour. You go past places and hear stories or anecdotes which you wouldn't know if you walked around by yourself. I for example am happy I found out what the bananas next to musea or art galleries mean. Our tour guide was called Mike and I really appreciated his enthusiasm and willingness to help with recommendations regarding food, must sees etc. Definitely recommend!

My family and I did the tour with Andre (Spanish speaking) during our trip to Cologne.

We love these walking tours as you get to know many things about the city that otherwise you may never hear about.
Overall tour takes 2.5 hours but with lots of stops (you are not waking for 2.5 hours). Mostly flat.

On the same day there was two other groups, English and German speaking guides.

Would recommend this for your trip to Cologne.

Mike spoke with passion and dynamism, revealing major historical facts, decorated by anecdotes and humour. This walk definitely gave us a feeling of Kóln's way of living: we had a great moment. Tired of the formal touristic attractions? The freewalk is what you are looking for!
