Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Located in the wonderful Old Town ( Altstadt ) on Marktplatz is the magnificent Old Town Hall ( Rathaus ) which is the oldest structure in Dusseldorf.
Constructed between 1570 / 1573 it's the most beautiful building in Dusseldorf, a stunning backdrop to the beautiful square.
As my twin brother Stephen and I were here over the Christmas period this building made for some great photographic opportunities with the Christmas market in full swing, made for some great photographic opportunities and added to the joy of visiting this wonderful Marktplatz.
Easy to locate on Marktplatz, most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.

The old heart of a city that has been extensively modernised since 1945. Dominated by an impressive equestrian statue of Johann Wilhelm (Jan Willem) II, Elector Palatine (19 April 1658 – 8 June 1716). It is surrounded on two sides by very comfortable street cafés.

A real jewel in the heart of Old Town (Altstadt). Make sure you visit it during morning as it closes on afternoon.

This is the City Hall of Dusseldorf. A construction in a very german style. The statue right outside is one of the kings of the region.

Picture-postcard perfect, this Town Hall in Old Town (Altstadt) Dusseldorf was built in the 1500's and looks like it has not diminished in its commanding presence and its old world charm. The sculpture of Prince-elector Johann-Willem riding a horse completes this picture-worthy sight. Jan-Willem, as he is known to locals, was an art lover and during his term, the city enjoyed a period of prosperity during which special attention was paid to the arts.

As others have commented , an impressive old style building located at the end of the lively main drag that is Bolkerstrasse. Reconstructed during 1958 to 1961 in the style of the original 1700’s buildings it serves as a focal point in the old town and is useful as a position locator if you ever lose your bearings in the maze of bars and restaurants.
Of the five Christmas markets that are dotted about the different squares during December the one in front of the Rathaus is probably the liveliest and busiest to visit when in town for Christmas and has the benefit of the wonderful architecture building behind as a backdrop.
One of the Town hall buildings was the original home of the sculptor Jan Wellem, whose equestrian statue can be seen to the front of the Rathaus.

Rathaus ( Town Hall ) is a wonderful structure located in Marktplatz that is one of the most iconic landmark buildings in Dusseldorf located in its most famous square.
Construction of the Town Hall took place between 1570 - 1573 and is in fact 3 buildings The Old City Hall,Wilhelminischer Bau and the Grupello House, all the buildings look stunning.
Severely damaged during WW2 the Rathaus was reconstructed between 1958 _ 1961 to its former glory and is one of the most photographed buildings in Dusseldorf.
The wonderful Dusseldorf Christmas market is held in front of the Rathaus each year and makes a great place to visit as your in the heart of this vibrant city.
Well worth checking out.

This has one of best and most bustling Christmas market within Dusseldorf and perhaps throughout Germany too. Beautifully decorated and with lots of variety of gluhwine and warm eats during the festive season.
