Nostalgic Rhine Cruise from Koblenz to Rudesheim

68 reviews
This sightseeing cruise from Koblenz is a great way to explore the beauty of the Rhine River Valley in a day. The Nostalgic Route showcases castles, vineyards, and magnificent scenery, and best of all, you can get off the boat at any of the stops along the way for exploring on foot.

Well arranged tour in Covid times. Beautiful castle with gardens. Beautiful views. Parking down the hil is for free just show your ticket at the kiosk and you get a coin to arrange your departure from the parking lot.

The guided tour has been reduced to only a few rooms (They are spectacular though!) Tour in German with English written guide, groups of only 10 persons, tours take 15/20 minutes. Not allowed to take photos of the interior. Most of the grounds and rooms are now cordoned off, still worth my 5€ though. Parking is at the bottom of the hill and it is a steep 600M walk up to the Schloss, €1 per hour to park but if you ask at the kiosk when you pay to visit the castle they will give you a token so you park for free.

We visited the castle at the end of the day, and despite the grey weather it looked very beautiful and imposing. You visit the castle by guided tour only, which was in German, but English written info was provided. Beautiful interior, very romantic and nice to hear the history of the castle. Better to visit on a sunny day though, as there is no lighting inside and some paintings were difficult to see.

It is a short yet steep walk to the entrance of this castle. I certainly would not recommend it for those with limited physical abilities. Once inside the castle some of the stairways are steep/narrow also. For those up tor the trek it is well worth it as it is a step back in time giving you a feel for the atmosphere the inhabitants lived in during the castle’s occupation. Everything from original cookware in the kitchen to suits of armor/weapons in the armory to an authentic torture room. For those up to the climb, it is well worth it - Travlin Matt

Take a bus from the bus station next to the railway station in Koblenz. There is a busstop near the road to the entrance.
