Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful basilica, even if it still turns out very stripped. It is very well maintained though, and surrounded by a shaded garden. Check-out point for moult rides, but also a small train for those interested.

We just happened upon this church while walking to Deutsches Eck. Outside, along the backside of the church, is information text in German and English regarding the history of the site and church.

Just a couple of steps away from the “German Corner”. Great gardens with gorgeous flowers. A pity the church was closed, worth coming back to see the inside.

Built built between 817 and 836, the Basilika St. Kastor or Kastorkirche is the oldest church in Koblenz. It is open from 09:00 to 18:00 for visits, with services at 18:30 on Saturday and 11:00 on Sunday. Destroyed in 1944, it was rebuilt from 1948 to 1955. It was made a minor basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1991. In the garden there are plaques with information about the archaeological findings in the area and the history of the church and its evolution in construction at this site.

Unless you have a thing for visiting churches, this one is pretty ordinary as things go. The gardens are a worthwhile visit.

We walked back from 'Kaiser Bill's' statue, and called into this handsome church, as we have done before. The basilica has seen many years of history, and is well worth a visit.

Considering the fact that the original church’s construction on this site began in the year 817, there is too long of a history to summarize here. The facade of the basilica on the west end is not ornate as many European churches are, but is more linear and boxy looking. There are two very tall towers with gabled roofs, one with a clock. The east end is curved and has two more towers. The interior has some nice paintings, but the highlight for me was the two “stellar vaults”.... the unique ceiling. The basilica has seen and played a role in a lot through time.... trials of the sons of Emperor Louis the Pious, division of the Frankish Empire, the Treaty of Verdun. It has quite a history for those interested and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There aren’t many things to do in Koblenz other than the German Corner and Cable car but this is something you can check out when you have already finished. First, this church is very impressive and imposing. Then as you walk in, it has a certain charm to it. Some churches just have a sad feel to it but this is more of a joyous place. Check it out as it is definitely worth your time.

My husband and I were visiting Koblenz while on the Rhine River Cruise. We were fortunate to have an English-speaking local guide who provided us with the history of the Basilica. It is truly a magnificent church worthwhile visiting and photographing. A "must see" while in Koblenz.

One gets the feeling of prayerful once entering this Basilica. It is the oldest church in Kolblenz with extenstive Romanesque Construction and largely traditional furnishing. Beautiful indeed.
