An excellent range of world class exhibits depicting the history of Trier and the surrounding region. My only gripe is the signage, the font size is incredibly tiny and almost all in German. We used the audio guides in English but there were only a dozen or so artefacts in the museum with codes on them to use on the audio guide.
The museum operates a one way route around the exhibition to keep it covid safe.

Can I suggest the museum creates an app to learn more about the museum, I used the one available in The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and its brilliant

We are big fans of Roman ruins and the empire’s impact. We are impressed by the museum’s large amount of mosaics and funerary art. The model of Roman Trier, a city of 80,000, is very impressive. Currently the Roman coin collection is not on exhibit as there was an attempted burglary. The museum also covers prehistory and Celts as well as how the medieval town was built on the Roman ruins.

This museum tells the fascinating story of Trier from Neolithic era through to the Bronze Age settlement, the Roman occupation and the Middle Ages. There are hundreds of artefacts showing tools, weapons, jewellery, grave goods and more. There was an excellent English language audio guide (other languages available) plus a kid’s version. My only small issue is there were about ten times as many displays as there were audio guide notes, so I think we missed a lot of the more detailed information. It would have helped if the initial information for each era was translated or part of the audio guide.

Great collection of artefacts. The audio guide is good in English but only covers key objects. The signs and descriptions are universally in German. There is lots so see and the Roman collection in particular is fantastic

The museum starts with the history of the first inhabitants of these lands, passing from the Stone Age through to the Celtic tribes who were here and then to the Roman occupation and into the medieval period. As befits the oldest city in Germany, there is a great deal to see here. Do note that the descriptions of the artefacts are done in German, so if you read no German, it may be best to purchase an audio guide.

Blown away by the Mosaics Room and the Roman ‘Street of Death’. Viewing all the tombstones and marvelling at the quality of the mosaics was incredible experience. Such world class exhibits. Great couple of hours meandering and taking it all in.

BUT and this is a big but….. why on earth is there no signage about ANY of the exhibits in English. So time consuming to have to point phone and wait for Google Translate app to work. Some rooms have hardly any signal. Incredibly frustratingly. The headset is no better either. Hardly any of the exhibits have a Number next to them, so headsets don’t provide much of the information.

This is Germany’s oldest city, with international tourists from all over the world, with incredible exhibits..

Come on Trier - you need to fix this!

Staff were excellent, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

We flew to Frankfurt, Germany to visit our son and his wife, who is station in Ramstein AFB. We visited Trier on recommendation of our son. While our son is working, my husband and I did some exploring in Trier and visited many sites including this museum, walkable from the Hauptmarkt square. This museum is worth a visit. It's got a lot of history of Trier. If you're a history buff, like me and my husband, you'll be amaze at this place.

Interesting museum if you are interested in the Roman history of trier.

A large museum that begins first with pre-history, then 80% of the museum about Roman finds and at the end the Middle Ages.
All texts are in German and the museum is very static. At some point after the 200th Romanian bowl coming out of a grave you saw it. A little too much of the same.
I found the mosaic floors most impressive and on the top floor the model how trier looked in the Romanian era.

The exhibition is very extensive and informative. Well structured and adequately labelled.

The exhibits on Roman history are particularly impressive.

There were problems with the supervisors, who completely ruined future museum visits for children.

As a supervisor, you naturally make sure that children behave. You don't need to be constantly followed and reprimanded by supervisors.

This museum with its priceless works from history, especially the interesting history of Trier is a must see. There are several other museums to visit, including the home of Karl Marx. And there is good food to be had between museum visits.
