Beautifully maintained 19th century steam boats. We went up river to Königstein. The trip took about 5 hours. Recommend taking the boat up and a train back. As you go upstream, the plain of Dresden gives way to a valley which has some dramatic heights. Food and beverage are available on board as are a variety of seating options. You... More

I booked a Royal Palaces tour, which was about 3 hours total. I didn't get off at the Blue Bridge, or at Pillnitz Castle. The boat was absolutely packed. Many, many elderly and infirm which is great, but it took an age to get us all on. I sat on the right hand side of the boat on the way... More

If Meissen is on your list to visit, consider using the tour boat from Dresden to get there. It is a leisurely trip of about 2 hours which gives you some nice views on the Elbe. If it is a bit of a cool day get a place on the aft deck which is somewhat sheltered, The front and the... More

We booked the 5 and half hour Elbe tour - that took as past so many wonderful views - villas, bridges, vineyards, cliffs... The boat was simple but comfortable and clean. I do get seasick, but here it was slow and smooth sailing and I did not feel unwell a bit. There are food and drinks on the boat, also... More

We did Dresden to Pillnitz to Dresden. Very enojoyable boat ride. They give you history along the way. They also serve drinks. We got off in Pillnitz and visited the Castle, then took the boat back to Dresden 2 hours later. Take a later boat if you want to visit the castle more relaxed and sit down for lunch.

We took the 9.45 am paddle steamer from Dresden to Meissen along the River Elbe on a hot sunny day in June. The journey was very peaceful and we enjoyed watching the wide variety of birds along the river bank. Most exciting sight was two red kites soaring above the trees at the side of the river. The food on... More

Was invited to a trip on this Steam Engine powered boat. A six man band played old rock and dixieland music. A buffet with hot and colds was available. Oh, and not to forget - free beer. The band was a really lifting the mood.

Recommended if you have a spare couple of hours. There are various itineraries and we chose the three hour round trips 'palace' cruise aboard the steam paddle ship 'Dresden' to Pillbitz and return. It's a leisurely trip with open and inside seating. Snacks and drinks are available. Commentary in German and English. Recommended as part of sightseeing in the area.

We took the 3 hour 10 minute trip to the Summer Palace and back. It is possible to get off at the Summer Palace and return on a later boat for the same price of 20 euros pp. Refreshments are served on board by friendly staff, and are fairly priced. You pass the Blue bridge, three "castles" with vineyards on... More

That was truely the highlight of my Dresden day trip in November. After spending some time strolling through the impressive attractions of the old city center, I took the one and half hour boat Elbe from 2.30 to 4.00 p.m. The scenery was unparalleled in its beauty. The sunset in the Elbe valley was truly enchanting. I strongly recommend it.
