Fascinating history of Dresden

Unfortunately, I could only spend a short time here as I was constrained by the times of my day trip from Berlin, but I found the museum very interesting and good value. I was... read more

The Dresden City Museum is located in a building called Landhaus between Wildstruffer and Landhaus streets. That edifice was built in the second half of the eighteenth century on Friedrich August Krubsacius’s design. In it a combination of different styles: baroque, rococo and classical can be observed. It is therefore one of Dresden architectural marvels owing especially to that harmonious... More

Unfortunately, I could only spend a short time here as I was constrained by the times of my day trip from Berlin, but I found the museum very interesting and good value. I was concerned that the guide from my day trip said that it "was all in German" - I came armed ready for some slow translating from my... More

The entrance is on a side street, so the first thing visitors notice is a recent, very striking fire escape, attached to an 18th century building. Part of the original house has been rebuilt to show its splendid staircase and entrance hall. (Like everything else in the centre of Dresden, it was reduced to a roofless shell in February 1945.)... I thought we would see exhibits on the rebuilding of Dresden after WWII which is an amazing story of resiliency. But there really wasn't much in there for that. It was more of a traditional small history museum with the usual bits and bobs from days gone by. Not really my thing so I didn't enjoy it as much as... More

If you´re going to do the museum in English then do it, if not then don´t, They have done half of it in English which sort of spoils it a bit.

It was just okay. This is something that you should visit just if you have time. Old town is much nicer to visit.
