A very lovely square. Huge and so much history. There are many old buildings worth a visit and a picture, a couple cool statues, and lots of restaurants and shops nearby. A true heart for Wittenberg.

This square contained a nice statue of Martin Luther, also a large gazing ball. One afternoon a postal van set up a little protable post office and had some Martin Luther post marks and stamps. It was so convenient.

Marktplatz (=Market square) is a Unesco World Heritage site since 1996, together with Luther's House, Castle Church and City Church. There are beautiful buildings all around, in pastel colours. The highlight is the Renaissance Town Hall built in 1541 but rebuilt in 1926-1928. The entrance...More

What a lovely and scenic marketplace. I felt I was back in the middle ages! There is no vehicle traffic through here, so it does harken back to an earlier time.

On a cold damp morning, we spent a brief time taking in the area of the Wittenberg Market Square while on a walking tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Martin Luther sites of the town. The cobblestone town center is rimmed by the Rathaus and...More

In a town dominated by Luther legends, it is most fitting to have 2 statues in the town square of Luther and Melanchthon. Both statues are on a raised pedestal and are protected from the elements/birds by a filigreed roof. Each pedestal has a saying...More

We had a beer and a piece of delicious fresh strawberry cake on the square on a Saturday afternoon. Wonderful!

We loved our visit to Wittenberg. Very quaint town with this marvelous historic square. Enjoyed a fabulous pastry from one of the shops on the square. Sat on a bench enjoying the small town atmosphere surrounded by history.

We had the luxury of being there on a Friday evening when it was not crowded. Really nice to be able to look around without too many other people.

A square before the old town hall (Rathaus). Before the Rathaus, there stand the statues of Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon, two leaders of the Protestant Reformation, Surrounding are gorgeous historic buildings, shops and cafes…etc. A peaceful square, beautiful in all directions.
