This not-so-big-town has more to offer than a lot of bigger ones. There is so much history to discover, you can walk for hours over bridges, in parks, watch boats, old brick houses, eat marzipan, have fabulous food. Especially great is December, with Christmas markets and decoration everywhere. In summer, you have beaches close by, can rent bicycles and bike... More

The main reason we went there is to buy the famous marzipan at Niederegger, The Alt Stadt is really nice, the city was reconstructed after the 2nd war. We enjoyed very much walking thru the streets and enjoying all the stores,

As almost all cities in Europe that have the advantage of a thriving Altstadt, Luebeck's is right up there. Pedestrian shopping zones, excellent public transport, fabulous old houses and traditional foods at markets. We only had 3 days in this town, but could have used a few more to get to a few more places and museums. Don't miss this... More

I just love this historic city center. Lübeck is a great city and the historic center is just amaizing. Walking over ther briges that seperat the center for the other parts, passing the old city gates and seing all these great churches and building is just great. We like everything about that city.

The old city of Lübeck is really beautiful. The reconstruction that was done after the Second World War, allows you to stroll around the old town and feel the history of the former hanseatic capital. Its towers, buildings and streets leave an imprint on your memory.

Went by train from Hamburg Hauptbahnhof. It only cost us 31Euro - ask for the Schlewig-Holstein card - allows 5 people to travel on it. You can also travel out to Travemunde (beach) on it to - so great value. We wandered around the old town - really beautiful. Marienkirche is beautiful - and it was the lunchtime service (only... We enjoyed Lubeck. It's very picturesque and a great walking town. Don't miss the HanseMuseum. It was really well done.

Really enjoyed Lubeck's old town even though we went there on a rainy day. Beautiful architecture and charming atmosphere of the European Medieval city.

Lubeck is another one of German's charming smaller medieval cities complete with narrow alleyways, old merchant houses, Holsten Gate and the seven spires of the Old Town, with its five mighty churches. Oh, and the marzipan salon at the Café Niederegger! Lübeck's Old Town is the first Old Town in Germany ever officially declared a Cultural World Heritage Site.

After the total destruction of the Old Town in March 1942, it is hard to believe that what we see today is accurate reconstuction of the historic buildings. It seems so authentic.
