All-in-all, it was not particularly memorable or striking. However, we were impressed that in 1884 a priest had discovered the plasterwork on the building's walls was actually covering up the Synagogue of Cordoba built in 1305. These interesting facts prompted us to visit, and we found it to be a worthwhile stop.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 May 2024

This synagogue is located in the Juderia, the former Jewish section of Cordoba, and is a UNESCO Heritage site. It is small but beautiful. The incised plaster and Hebrew lettering that frame the windows and doors is a testimony to craftsmanship and artistry. No admission fee.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 5 May 2024

This synagogue is small but makes a powerful statement. It right around the corner from Casa de Sefarad - which is also not to be missed. What is really clear from walking around this area is that the Jewish presence in Cordoba was substantial and important prior to the expulsion.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 June 2024

Cordoba, Spain is considered “The Ornament of The World”. And, this ancient synagogue (with The Moses Maimonides statue), coupled with the Mosque/Cathedral, might help in explaining this monumental distinction. There are ancient origins in this one city for three different world wide major religions! I think that is really saying something. This was my first time in any synagogue and I was surprised at how very plain and simple was a place of religious worship. I’m so happy to have checked this off on my bucket list.

Small but historically important - built in 1315 it is one of only 3 synagogues remaining in Spain from that time and the only one left in Andalusia after the expulsion of the Jews in the 15th century. Entrance is off a small courtyard in the Jewish Quarter and there is very intricate plasterwork on the walls. Definitely worth a visit even though it won't take long to see.

I found the visit to the synagogue and its associated history very fascinating. I believe this may have been the first time I’ve visited a synagogue. Other items of interest are the Iglesia de la Trinadad and Maiamonides Square and if seeking out a good meal, La Esquinita De La Juderia.

Located not far from Puerta del Almodovar- Just turn right down the first street you come to and it's on your right about 75 metres down. The synagogue dates from 1315, but after the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492, the same year in which Columbus crossed the Atlantic Ocean, the building served as a hospital and later a community centre. It's quite small inside, but worth visiting nonetheless. There are information boars at different locations inside. It was free to enter.

I am not jewish but I appreciate other cultures and try to enrich my life by learning about their history. This is a must see site. Very small but full of history. I wish money would get allocated to repair it like other historical sites. In the morning we encounter lots of children from school field trips. Go after 3 pm if you want to avoid that.

Apparently one of few remaining authentic Jewish structures in Andalusia. It’s also one of the best preserved ones in all Spain. Free to visit. Not a lot to see but worth checking out nevertheless.

The history of the Sinagogue might be interesting (hospital for rabies etc), but there really is very little to look at. It's effectively 1 small room with some Moorish architecture and a minora. It wasn't worth my looking for it.
Underwhelming.

Does anyone know how long the synagogue in Cordoba will be closed? Google maps is showing that it’s closed permanently.
Written 10 May 2018
We were just there this late Nov 2019 and it is open. Maybe the time you searched on google it was closed.
Written 26 November 2019
Hi Syracuse, did they post when it will re-open for visit? Thanks.
Written 28 March 2018
They didn't, unfortunately. I would have loved to go inside.
