Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In the high hills next to Cordoba there lies a former retreat hermitage for the monks of the Discalced Carmelite order, now unpopulated but open to the public. The monks honored poverty, silence, solitude and penance as a means of coming closer to God.

I was taken to Las Ermitas by my husband, who used to frequent the hermitage as a child. He told me that his mother before him used to make the long hike to the top of the mountain just to eat the beans that the monks cooked and provided daily for the poor of Cordoba. One of the roads leading the chapel is now called "Questa de los Pobres" because it was worn by the feet of the many that made the trek for food.

Las Ermitas includes several open domiciles as well as access to part of a cave where a particular monk lived, finding even the domiciles to be too privileged. Las Ermitas has been unpopulated since the last monk passed away in 1957, but still holds service daily in its beautiful chapel, which began holding service in 1709. Another gem is the massive statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, visible when lit at night from Cordoba, as a beacon of blessing to the Cordovans. And the view from a marble carved seat on the mountains edge cannot be beat. The seat, known as the Bishops Seat after the Bishop Trevilla, was constructed because the sight from that "seat" was believed to bring you closer to God because of the magnificence of nature.

I could not believe that this incredible, humbling cultural and religious site was relatively unknown to Tripadvisor when so many cathedrals, mosques and castles were reviewed hundreds of times. Las Ermitas costs only a Euro to enter, and the site is maintained by volunteers primarily. It is a truly sobering and inspiring place to visit, and the view and photographic scenes are worth the short drive out of the city up the gorgeous winding road to the hermitage. I saw numerous cyclists on the way up, indicating that the road is popular for cyclists.

The site is also handicap accessible (except the cave) and there are quiet, knowledgable volunteers handy. Be noted that the hours are few, as the site is still used as a religious retreat and services occur in the small, ornate chapel.

there are some small chapel to visit, but for me, the best place to see Cordoba is from there. The most beautiful view of Cordoba that you can get.
Very relaxing place and very cheap (just 1 eur).

We came here with our friend who lives in Cordoba. He had been on the outside many times but never went in. We just went to the overlook. We did not see the chapel. Our friend liked it so much he said he would bring his girlfriend here (she is also from Cordoba but was in the US at the time).

Entry price is minimal. 1 or 1.5 euro.

It is a calming place away from the city.

After driving through a crooked road up to the hill, we finally arived at this place. It was almost closing time so we couldn't go inside. We enjoyed the view of Cordoba and soon drove down hill before it was getting dark as it would be very dangerous driving on such road in the dark

We drove to this place it's a little out the way you would need your own transport, but once your there it's a little gem, so peaceful the tiny church is lovely. You walk around by yourselves would have been nice if you could have had audio phones. The view is spectacular. The price to get in is €1.50 so very cheap and a quirky thing is you have to put a € to get the lights on in the church.

the very cheap entry fee is worth paying if only for the view.
You'll visit afew private chambers and the chapel, but you can stroll down to the marble chair and take on the magnificent view.
Do not go on a rainy day.

The story of the hermitage is an interesting one. However there is not a great deal of information in English at the site. Fortunately, we had a spanish friend with us. The cells and the chapel are not really to my taste and to be honest I found the place a bit creepy. However, don't let that stop you because the views from here are amazing and there is a wonderful mirador which alone is worth the price of admission (E1.5).
Check opening times (mornings seem best) and you probably need a car.

We checked the official tourist information website for opening times and made a special trip up the mountain to visit Las Ermitas. Much to our disappointment the place was shut and there was a small sign in Spanish to say that it was shut in the afternoons, contradicting the opening times advertised online. I would like to have written a review of the visit, but for the above reason never got there.

This is actually a chapel that is right in the middle of what was a mosque initially and the best part is that the whole place is located far from the crowd and in a very peaceful area. The view of the chapel and the surrounding are nice and makes up for the travel to the place because a short hiking is involved in the visit.
