Iglesia del Juramento de San Rafael is another interesting church with a distinctive baroque interior and attractive main alter and florid side chapels.

There are so many churches in Cordoba that one can easily overlook this fascinating place. Cordoba Catolics believe that Archangel Rafael appeared on the spot where the church now exists. He declared himself the guardian of Cordoba during a deadly plague and from that moment on no one else died of the plague. Even if you know none of this the church is a treasure. There is a peaceful feeling throughout. Don't miss the tiny but delightful patios along the side. The patio is accessible from inside the church through a clearly marked door to the right of the main door. Just inside the patio entrance one can see the retored original containers which held the lamp oil for the church. Inside the church tin the left nitch is a crucified Christ which has been designed by scientific study and rendition of what a man having undergone the torture Christ insured would have really looked like. The hight, wounds etc are derived from the shroud of Turin and historical records about the Romans. It is the most gruesome Christ I have ever seen but clearly it reflects what a human body would have looked like after undergoing, lashings, and crusifiction. Amazing. The architecture of the inside of the church is different and has an almost Moorish style in it's lattice work. The stained glass windows are beautiful. Definitely worth seeing.
