Teatro Falla is important for hosting the competition of Carnival in Cadiz.
Nevertheless, the builing itself is remarkable.

They organize interesting guided tours where they also show you the attic, which has an art nouveau architecture and looks like an overturn boat keel, and the space below the stage.

Check the Oficina de Turismo (Tourist Information) when are the tours and if they also make visits in other languages beside Spanish.

Definitely a must walk-by when exploring Cadiz. It’s a very colourful building with a mixture of Arabian and European architecture.

Beautiful theater with every show very well done. Many friendly staff and incredible details (look up when you are inside- I wonder how long it took to paint!) my pictures do it no justice.

Happened to be in Cadiz when a civic Gala (variety) performance was taking place - included many very successful and professional "local" performers such as flamenco's Jonathan Santiago. Fascinating to see the audience reaction. We feel very fortunate to take in this performance and only 20 euros for the best seats! If you are in Cadiz, be sure to check out what is playing. Great way to start to understand local culture!

Ok, architecture there is a marvel, too. But foremostly, we learn about how the great composer Manuel de Falla, born 23/11/1876, bridged flamenco to classic music, in a revolutionary albeit sweet mode...

Wonderful spot! Nice from all the spot, a true symbol of the city. Seen only from the outside, still I will keep a wonderful memory of this very original spot!

Externally this is a wonderfully imposing building reflecting the mudejar influences with its promises of untold delights inside; seriously beautiful building! I did take a gamble to see a concert which was a mixture of flamenco, jazz, singing, guitar and dance; it paid off it was brilliant. Internally the decoration doesn't match up to the splendour of the Wakefield or Leeds Grand Theatres and the air conditioning was a bit lacking, but the overall atmosphere was superb. Another example of how Cadiz can enter into your soul.

I went here a few weeks ago for a group guided tour. It was so interesting to see the interior of such a beautiful building. The tour had short pauses for the guides to sing carnaval style songs. Overall, very interesting and cool.

We attended an opera there last weekend. Even though we had bought our tickets ten days in advance, we were only able to get tickets at the very, very top of the theater. Despite a very uncomfortable seating arrangement, we were greatly enjoying the performance until a noise caught our attention. There were two security guards standing several rows above us. I watched as one of security guards went to the far end of the balcony, stood for a long time peering out over the audience, and then gradually went back to the other end, stopping several times along the way. It seemed as if he were looking for someone, and this made me very nervous. I stopped paying any attention to the opera and just kept trying to see what he was doing. We left after the first act. We spoke to a guard at the entrance who assured us that nothing was wrong. However, if that was the case, why could the guard not have just stood quietly in the back, instead of distracting the audience?

actully; the Gran Theatre Manuel de Falla in Plaza de Falla and aside from the color which makes stand out, the architecture is very reminiscent of the arches to be found in the Alhambra and Medinat a-Zahara, which is to say it very much makes the building a very striking architectural piece. Sadly we did not have enough time to enjoy a show, wonder what the interior is like.

The original Gran Teatro was constructed in 1871 by the architect García del Alamo, and was destroyed by a fire in August, 1881. The current theatre was built between 1884 and 1905 over the remains of the previous Gran Teatro. The architect was Adolfo Morales de los Rios, and the overseer of construction was Juan Cabrera de la Torre. The outside was covered in red bricks and is of a neo-Mudejar or Moorish revival style. Following renovations in the 1920s, the theatre was renamed the Gran Teatro Falla, in honor of composer Manuel de Falla, who is buried in the crypt of the cathedral. After a period of disrepair in the 1980s, the theatre has since undergone extensive renovation.
