    Animated Food Market
A very animated food market near the center of the old city. Lots of food stalls; the fruits and vegetables were especially enticing. And there are many casual places to eat the fresh food surrounding the market.

    Lunchtime atmosphere
Arriving at lunchtime it was heaving with people, so probably best time to appreciate it fully. Stalls selling healthy fresh food were winding down, but all the eating outlets were in full flow. So availed of some of these for a memorable lunch.

A must if you are in cadiz
Great place, fresh food. Restaurants anf baars are fair in pricing and quality is really good. I took every day 5 oysters which cost 10€ and the guy gave me every time 1 for free. Try the bars around one sangrio cost 3-4 euroes. Ther is also a very big carefour on one side of the market.

    Don D Vito, Market, Cadiz
Made this a repeat restaurant visit in a 2 week holiday. Simply the best pizza eaten for years. Centre of the old market. Atmospheric Packed with locals who welcome the tourist. Phenomenal choice. Incredible number of stalls catering to every taste Don D Vito. Best choice in this writer's opinion. An evening at this hidden gem will not disappoint.

We went to the central market for lunch. The market is quite large and the inside rows are lined with fish and vegetable stalls. Along the perimeter of the market area area nuremous restaurant stalls. We arrived just as prime time lunch started so it was really difficult to find anywhere with a table. But a lot of the restaurants looked great. Defintiely worth a wander and for lunch get there a bit early

It is indeed central and has a most impressive façade. There is a great selection of permanent market stalls inside selling superb fresh produce. The most impressive of these are the various fish vendors.

We bought some wonderful juicy cherries at a very reasonable price.

I had only a few hours in Cadiz and decided to do the hop on, hop off bus tour. I got off at the cathedral, and having visited it, I decided to walk the short distance to the Mercado Central rather than getting in the bus again. The market was in full swing, with fish mongers doing a roaring trade. There were also fruit and veg stalls, and butchers. All around the edges of the market were little independent bars and restaurants and I bought a tapas portion of paella, which was much bigger than I expected, and a glass of crianza to wash it down. This was a total cost of only €5. A delicious break on my sightseeing tour of Cadiz. I’d recommend visiting the market in the morning rather than later in the day when things are winding down.

We had been to the market About ten am to check out the fantastic fish stalls . Then after our Cadiz bike tour we asked the tour lady for lunch recommendations and she came up trumps
Back to the market and the outside area surrounding the fish market had turned into a vibrant clash of pop up food stall
The etiquette is to grab a table if you can find one , buy your drinks from the stall that owns the table then wander round and buy your food and eat at the table
So many food stall vibrant seafood paella Mexican sandwiches to many to mention and all on small plates so great for tasting and cheap !!! Plate of paella and black rice 6 euro pint of Estella Galicia 2 euro 50 we wiled away two hours drinking , people watching and eating mostly Spanish locals and very busy great atmosphere .

We walked around the market on a Sunday afternoon when all the bars around the outside were doing a roaring trade with locals and tourists enjoying themselves. The associated debris of empty bottles and food wrappers was quite marked but nobody seemed to mind. We went again the following morning when only a few of the stalls were open and the majority of the bars were closed, however the entire place was incredibly clean and you would never have realised what was going on the day before.
Impressive!

Wherever we go in Spain, and elsewhere for that matter, the local market is always somewhere I visit. In Cadiz it was especially interesting and it seems that in the old city every journey somehow took us past the market, which offers a glimpse of daily life in what seems to be the centre of the historic quarter of Cádiz.
Such is the quality of the fish, meat, fruit and vegetables that are sold at the market, that whilst you marvel at the more than 100 food stands, it’s easy to miss the beautiful architecture of the Central Market which is in itself a very impressive building surrounded on all sides by interesting plazas, wide streets, restaurants, bars and shops.
Inside as well as the usual fruit, veg, meat, fish, bread and specialist grocery stalls there is a plethora of bars and restaurants. The wing situated to the left-hand side of the main entrance houses the Rincón Gastronómico, where you can sample freshly made food. Not the normal cafe type place, but a range of establishments providing all sorts of specialist cuisines from all over Spain and further afield. Most of the produce stalls are situated in the central pavilion of the market, and one thing that stands out the most is the colourful array of fish with magnificent examples of bluefin tuna, dogfish, prawns and Sanlúcar king prawns, as well as all manner of local and national shellfish.
Really enjoyed this market and would recommend a visit, you will be there more than once. One word of caution: the tables outside the various places in the food court area are the province of that establishment and consuming anything not purchased from the relevant place makes the owners very grumpy. On more than one occasion we witnessed couples who had obtained food from two different outlets being very firmly told they could not consume what was not purchased there. A bit small minded in my view and counter-productive to providing a variety of fare in one place: but who am I to judge?

Geat fresh seafood and Produce and right opposite a large Carrefour supermarket. Easily walked between the Cathedral and Near the Camera Obscura tower. Some of the most amazing prawn, langoustine and lobster species! If you are in an apartment a relatively inexpensive seafood banquet awaits.

My wife and I visited the Mercado Central in Cadiz on All Saints Day this last November. Nearly everything was closed in the market. There was a small flea market in the street outside the entrance to the Mercado, but nothing like the photos showing the bustling activity of the Mercado. Don’t go to the Mercado on a national holiday.

We stumbled across these markets by accident and so glad we did. More than 60 individual markets selling fresh fruit & vegetables, fish & seafood galore, olives, cheeses, hams, preserved meats, fresh meats and clothes on the outside. It was a hive of activity and a real treat to purchase fresh produce direct from the makers. We bought preserved tuna (aka ‘Ham of the Sea’) several varieties of olives and fruit. Be aware that it’s cash only.
