Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I saw the lighthouse, for a very first time, when we were at the castle and I really wanted to go down and explore more of it. Once we reached there, we found it was locked and I was not sure if it was operating at all. It would be great to get renovated and allow people to explore inside.

Whenever we visit Malaga we always stay in this area. Not only does it have a beach, it also has the wonderful reasonably Newport area to explore.
This is full of beautiful boats and posh shops and restaurants. Just about marking the end of this is own is this impressive Lighthouse.
Not only does it allow great photographs, it is a reference point for wherever you are in this area. It’s lovely walking around this area and this makes a good landmark to visit.

We arrived in Malaga on a sunny Sunday and took a lazy stroll down the promenade as far as this landmark. It is an impressive structure, which features in a number of brochures advertising the City, but sadly cannot be visited. Not a must do, but makes a focus and there are many cafes and restaurants to tempt you on the way

La Farola is a whitewashed lighthouse at the entrance of the Port of Málaga and was created by engineer Joaquín María Pery y Guzmán and was completed in 1817. It is a very traditional sight in an area that has been completely transformed over the years and remains majestic amongst its new environment.

La Farola divides symbolically separates the promenade and the beach of La Malagueta. The lighthouse, the creation of engineer Guzman, turned 200 years old in 2017. The lighthouse survived two centuries with some losses: damaged by an earthquake in 1884 and by fire from the francoist Navy in the civil war of 1936-1939. No access inside.

As an non-lighthouse fan, I’m not interested to see a lighthouse. But it’s something you have to see when you are in Malaga.

La Farola is a lighthouse that overlooks the port of Malaga. This lighthouse was constructed in 1816. The lighthouse was remodeled in 1885 to improve the light coming from it, to help navigators at night. In 1909 the house where the man who operated the light lived was enlarged. This lighthouse is one of Malaga’s most famous landmarks.

Who doesn't love lighthouses? There is a certain mystique, a truly romantic quality about all of them. They are symbols, generally, of our most isolated stretches of coastline, a reminder of times gone by. They are part of our heritage, folklore and there is something quite mysterious about them, ghost stories, shipwrecks, smuggling and childhood dreams are all tied up in these timeless structures. La Farola de Malaga is the only lighthouse on the peninsula with a feminine name and it dates back to 1816 when it was built with stones from the Gibralfaro hill. It was badly damaged on two occasions and had to be extensively repaired. The first was as a result of an earthquake in 1898 and it was not completely repaired until 1913. The second was damage caused by artillery during the fierce fighting around Malaga during the Civil War in the 1930's. This war left its mark on all of Spain and Malaga was no exception. A lovely, if poignant, area to visit particularly because of the transformation of Pier One, Muelle Uno, now one of the most vibrant areas in the city.
