Wasted visit to plaza del Torres today -Thursday. Despite web site stating it was open it wasn’t. Perhaps keeping the web site up to date would help visors.

Huge Bull Ring in the Old Town area of Malaga. Also do exhibitions and we saw a Beatles & Rolling Stones photo exhibition. Lovely old building in great condition. Recommended.

The Plaza de Toros is best viewed from the castle where you really gain an impression of its size. It is a really impressive building which is steeped in history and has been declared an official site of cultural interest. Whilst you cannot access the bull ring itself or the terraces themselves, they can be viewed through glass panes and it’s worth a visit as entry is free and the walls are adorned with a varied and eclectic mix of art work.

Well, you don't often see the ear of a bull framed and displayed as an exhibit! Of course, it is a gruesome trophy for the bullfighter to take after killing the bull, but there are plenty of photographs in the small museum which show brave men on their deathbeds, following an unsuccessful encounter with a powerful adversary. The bullring itself was built in 1874 and hosts bullfights to this day, mainly between April and September. The brilliantly-coloured costumes on display, as well as the atmospheric black and white photographs bring the 'sport' to life as much as many of us would care for, I suspect. There is a photograph of the ring divided in to two - a contest taking place in either half. It reminded me of the early-round snooker matches at The Crucible where two tables are in-play and, because the spectators are aware that there is no 'main-event', attention of the crowd often wavers. I wondered if those present at the life and death struggles became similarly blase through over-familiarity. You can see the ring and the 14,000 seats and there is a useful model that shows the position of the holding pens, stables and dressing rooms. You will be impressed by the mounted bulls' heads. Sad, but magnificent. You might spend 10 Euros to sit on the generic big wheel in Malaga. This is genuine Spain for just a couple of Euros (it feels like you ought to pay in pesetas!).

I have never been one for Bullfighting and find it quite grotesque. But the History and pomp of this so called sport is very interesting. The Museum is well laid out, and access to the top tier of the actual ring is included in your price of only 1.5 euros. There is a great little cafe in the nearby square that does a lovely lunch menu. This area is well worth a visit.

I was very disappointed...OK, the entry was really cheap, 1-2 Euros but there was actually nothing to see! A couple of costumes and a couple of heads of bulls, that's all. Our visit took 5 minutes altogether, and I'm not joking. No history, no interesting facts, no admission to the roof (at least when we were there) or into the arena itself. We could see the arena only from a window, could not take even a great photo from there. I don't know whether we were just unlucky as there were people working on and cleaning the arena on the concerned day, but if not then forget this arena and go to Seville or Ronda to have a better experience.

Wow! So glad we hopped off the Big Bus at Plaza de Toros. It's a lovely area with some beautiful buildings and tree lined streets. The highlight was the Bull Ring and small but facinating museum upstairs. It was under Euro 2 to enter and was one of the most interesting places we saw in Malaga. Apparently they still hold bull fights here but only in August for one week. The bullring was built by Joaquin Roucoba in 1876 and has been very well maintained. In 1981 it was declared a Monument of Cultural Interest and Historical Heritage of Spain. It houses the most magnificent costumes worn by some very famous bullfighters and there is a pictorial account of the history of their fights. Numerous heads of reveered bulls are also mounted on the walls.
There are toilets on-site too.
I highly recommend this museum. When finished there is a fabulous local cafe right near the bullring (same side, to the left) which serves the best coffee and local dishes at extremely good prices.

I'm not a fan of bull fighting, but, it's part of Spanish culture, like castanets, flemenco dancing, the Spainsh Civil War & Franco!

If you do decide to visit, do so with an open mind, as you will be faced with Bull's Heads! These are that Bull Ring's 'Trophies'! The one in Torremolinos has them too, we saw them through the gates when we visited there on a previous holiday. If you've been to National Trust stately homes, they have stags heads!

Malaga's Bull ring does see bull fight's, but only twice a year during, the Easter celebrations &, during the Feria in August, but from listening to the locals, it doesn't get anything like the capacity crowd of 14,000 that it would've done in it hey-day.

For the princely sum of 1.80€ you can get into the museum & seemingley spend as long as you want wandering around the displays, & out in the auditorium stands.

Sadly, the musuem, like so many in Malaga, doesn't have any English translation, which is a shame, as it would've been nice to known what some of the information said, & we could've spent so much more time in there.

I know a lot of the possessions in there belong to the guys who now own the Bull ring, because we were told on a City bike tour, by the guide.

The bull ring itself is as you see it in the photographs. There is a limit to where you can go once out in the auditorium.

Part of me would love to see the pomp of the Toreadors being introduced to a crowd, in their beautiful, ornate costumes, & showing off their skills, & to experince the atmosphere of the crowd, but, I don't want to see a bull being killed for sport, or, a Toreador being injured - there are enough YouTube videos of both of those!

Is it worth 1.80€? Yes, for being able to spend as long as you like just sitting & looking at the architecture of the inside of the actual bull ring & the quick nip around the museum, for the reasons already stated.

Extremely gruesome. Animal abuse. Some parts of history should not be kept alive. If you love and care for animals, DO NOT ATTEND.
