Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Central Market of Zaragoza is a nice working fresh produce market.
Beautiful architecture of stone, glass and iron - designed in 1895. Look for the allegories of agriculture, hunting, fishing and transportation, medallions, pinnacles topped with fruit bowls.
As with all markets, they are the heart of a town and this one is no different - selling delicious fresh produce from the region.

It is one of the visits that can be made in a quiet walk in Zaragoza.
It is a beautiful building, and in the morning brimming with the life of a market with typical products of the area.
When we went, behind the Roman wall and already in the pza del Pilar continued the itinerant stands of fresh vegetables giving continuity.

Nice building. Butchers, delicatessens, fishmongers, greengrocers... Not too touristy market, more like a market for locals. We bought vegetables and dried fruits there. It was almost closing time, the dried fruit seller was very rude....
Too bad it's closed on Monday.

The market is smaller than many of the central markets we’ve visited in other cities, but it has what most people might need. I expected more fruit and vegetable stands. For that matter, more of every kind of stand. It was nice to walk through since we were walking by, but I wouldn’t make a separate trip to see it.

A beautiful building really well kept. A very good selection of vendors, fish, meats, fruit and vegetables and spices and sweets. Locals shop here so it must be good. A very interesting place to get a’taste’ of Zaragoza.

Not a tourist destination save that it serves as a living exhibition and true cross section of the local culture and society. I wish we had a market like this where I live; a true shopping centre where the locals buy their groceries, bread, cheese, meat, fish, fruit and vegetables: not a tourist trap where fancy presentation and high prices prevail.
Very narrow aisles full of people of all ages waiting their turn to negotiate with the vendors and moving between stalls with the ubiquitous shopping trollies. A wonderful, huge variety of almost every type of food you can imagine all at prices that locals will pay. The whole experience is pure theatre and is better appreciated if you can join in. Taking part in this cacophony of activity was great fun, I really enjoyed the whole experience and could easily have spent quite a lot longer. I wish I could better explain the thrill and excitement of being part of the drama, but it has to be experienced to be fully appreciated and to do that you will need to have an understanding of the Spanish culture and be able to speak Spanish. Walking around and pointing just doesn't cut it here, you need to discuss and seek clarification from the people selling their produce as well as let them know how you want your fish or meat cut and prepared. Oddly, this market does not have a cafe or bar that one would normally expect to find in a local market.
A wonderful building where shopping is an experience rather than a chore.

For me, visiting fresh food markets is always a good indication how well the local population live in a given place, so I always make it a point to visit such markets. The market is housed in an old, beautiful building, which looks like a railway station. Spanish markets are a source of constant wonder to me, due to the variety and abundance of fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, seafood, processed dairy and meat products, spices, etc. Coming from a cold, Scandinavian country where markets like this are basically non-existent, I always feel so poor and underprivileged after feasting my eyes on the choices of food available daily for the Spanish consumer. If you are to self-catering while on holiday, a visit to this place is a must. Forget buying food in supermarkets, you can do that when you are back home again.

We actually went looking to go see this Mercado, but when we got there we saw that it was closed. The building itself is an iron and glass structure. It's nice on the outside, and am sure after the renovation it will be super on the inside too.

Immediately upon entering this market you will be impressed with the number of vendors. They display their product so beautifully. From fish, some of which you will not recognize, to beef to chicken, breads fruits and vegetables, nuts and raisins and some of the most amazing deli meats and cheeses. Iberian ham galore, from Serrano to jamon Iberico. And as this market is in Zaragoza, it cater mostly to local people doing their daily shopping it is not tourista priced. All vendors we experienced were more than helpful and willing to communicate with us non Spanish speaking folk. Great experience and an amazing place to get the food you need. They do close for siesta and re-open later.

We were delighted to visit this market which dates back more than 100 years. The historic Mercado Central is frequented by locals and features meats, produce, fish, spices, etc. A trip to the Central Market is a memorable shopping experience.
