Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not one of the stand out cathedrals of Spain but an interesting place to browse. The altar screen is bling par excellence. Highlight is probably the cloisters.. check out how many different designs among the arches and the two crosses of Asturias. Free audio guide tends like so many to be over detailed and some of the views (eg of the crosses) are blocked as people listen. Signs saying "do not use your audio guide " in certain places are ignored.

Like many other beautiful cathedrals, now one must pay to visit. There was a time when it wasn't like this. Either way, still interesting to visit although very difficult to get a glimpse of the holy cloth that covered Jesus' face... so says the legend.

A really impressive cathedral. In addition to the beautiful architecture, the relics, I was also impressed by the interesting history of this Cathedral as told through the audio guide..

For the devout, it is remarkable to see the cloth used to cover the face of Christ after he was crucified.

The highlight of my trip to Oviedo was seeing the city, the history of its buildings, its present and past through the eyes of a 19th century literature female character personified by a real actress, whose tour I took outside Oviedo’s cathedral. I have a Spanish Masters but people who don’t care about literature enjoyed the explanation just as much. Imagine a woman dressed as if she were in the 19th century, reciting scenes from Spain’s famous novella, La Reggenta, as she walks the city where the story based in real life takes place. She talks how it always rains and you are walking around and it’s raining ☔️ she explains how the only thing to do is hide from the cold in coffee houses, while she dreams of her lover, stays in a loveless marriage and confesses her sins to the priest.

It is lovely to go inside but not necessary to enjoy this place as there is such beauty on.the outside and seats opposite to enjoy and study.

Gorgeous architecture. Make sure to visit the garden next door. Through that garden you can enter a side chapel with a beautiful altar piece in gold

This imposing cathedral is well worth a visit. The most interesting part of the interior is the extraordinary altar screen, a huge, multi-scene diorama which dominates the eastern end of the nave. I also enjoyed the chapel which forms the oldest part of the building, which contains some curious and delightful statues of various saints (including blue-eyed Thomas). The cloisters are also very fine.

This was a fascinating cathedral, so different from the others we saw on our trip. The highlights were the gorgeous altar, the historic artifacts in the reliquary from the start of the reconquest, and the ability to still access the preromanesque foundations and crypts of the church. I thought it was a nice touch to have the children's map as well. It did help keep our son more engaged. Be advised, though, that the children's map is in Spanish only.

The ostentatious altar pieces, the Treasury, & the very complete audio tour (included with admission) makes this a worthwhile stop even if you are not into churches.

I will be traveling to Oviedo in September 2020 and plan to see the Sudarium on 21 Sept. Do I need to get tickets to view it or is it just first come first served line to view?
Thank you,
