We did like it, though the newer part of the city I liked better. Full of narrow streets, little shops and bars, though somehow looked more touristy than newer part, hence less authentic in my taste.

We stayed in Bilbao from May 27 - 30 2015. The compact Casco Viejo, Bilbao’s atmospheric old quarter, is full of charming streets, boisterous bars and plenty of quirky and independent shops. At the heart of the Casco are Bilbao’s original seven streets, Las Siete...More
The Old Town is actually a bit shabby, and no patch on some of the other old towns in other cities in Europe (Tallin, Riga, Vilnius etc,). But it is really remarkable for the stunning Bilbao architecture that is a wonderful hybrid of the modern...More
I found some great shops here! Pass up the T-shirt shops and keep looking. Try Artekale 35 for original ceramics, jewelry and leather crafts, and Amelie on Carnicería Vieja (no. 25) for beautiful clothing imported from France, reasonably priced. Owners of these shops were friendly...More
We spent a good deal of time in Bilbao wandering around the old town. Lots of interesting sites to see and places to visit, but most of all lots of places selling Pintxos for not very much
A nice place to wander with some old churches and quaint shops. Bilbao just celebrated the 715th anniversary of signing it's municipal charter on June 15, 1300. It's the largest municipality in the Basque Country and 10th biggest in Spain. The Casco Viejo is a...More
Busy and fun Old Town! Lots of shopping with great restaurants -- pintchos were wonderful!!!! They were great here and only got better as we went on to San Sebastion!!
Good shopping, good eating, lots of historic fabric. It's fun to wander through the pedestrian-friendly streets and see things you just don't have at home.
Nice place to walk around, eat or drink at the cafes and bars, visit the old buildings and churches. Colourful and lively atmosphere.
The whole area around the cathedral, including the "siete calles" is full of character and well worth exploring in detail. There are several interesting shops, restaurants and bars, and the covered market is very attractive.
