Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The main building on the square is occupied by the Royal Basque language Academy. Try to pronounce its name Euskaltzaindia in Basque and you will understand that this language should be taught by an entire Academy. The other functional purpose of the square is no less clever. The final of the Grand Slam Masters chess tournament takes place here. When academics and chess players leave, taverns, restaurants and souvenir shops open here. Therefore, tourists are constantly jostling here. People who like to buy old useless things like old coins and toys should come here on Sunday morning. You can get hold of a trinket at the flea market from the same Amateur as You, who did it 10-15 years earlier.

In the heart of the Old Town, this is a beautiful plaza surrounded on all four sides by ornate arcades and elegant stately buildings.
There are a number of ice cream bars and cafes around d the arcades and aplenty of seats in the plaza itself to have a drink.
I'd say it is absolutely buzzing in summer but on my visit, a cool April midweek afternoon, it was very quiet and there were guys clearing up the square after what was clearly a concert or event.
Well worth a visit though, a beautiful place.

You will not be disappointed by the hundreds of pintxos found in the many cafes that line the interior of this plaza. They are a bit more expensive as they may be trying to charge more for tourists, but the ambience is tough to beat. Great energy in this place. You must try the pintxos at Cafe Bar Bilbao.

We had the best couple of hours exploring Plaza Nueva and soaking up the atmosphere. Going on a pintxos bar crawl is quite overwhelming but this is the perfect place. You are spoilt for choice and everyone in the bars is so helpful if you are a novice like me. Delicious food, great drinks and a great buzz. The square is a fab place to spend some time just wandering, would highly recommend.

3 days in Bilbao and we were at Plaza Nueva (also called Plaza Barria) and ate pintxos at least 6 times and walked safely around 15 laps. Here is everything to eat and drink. You can sit at tables, hang out at bar tables under a roof (shelter for sun or rain) or take a seat on the benches along the square. See children playing football in the square and enjoy the atmosphere.

This is a good place to go for wine and pintxos pretty much any time. You must EAT as well as drink to get a table on the courtyard. No, just drinking tables.
There was NOT a flea market here on Sundays in October 2023, so do not plan on this in your itinerary.

Nice little area to relax, go to a cafe, and let the kids run and play. I went Siri g a festival so it was quite busy and most stores were closed due to the weekend. Pretty area though and great for photographs.

A historic plaza in the heart of old town. Lots of good restaurants & bars in the plaza. Worth to stop and have a drink and/or meal. Eski şehir merkezinde tarihi meydan. İyi yemek bulabileceğiniz pek çok güzel bar ve restaurant var.

Must see in the heart of the old town. eat or dine on pintxos de haute cuisine. It is a party in itself, see the bars of any of the establishments, well accompanied by wine or txacoli. Full of tourists, many foreigners. To repeat the experience.

The square reminded me of Plaza Mayor in Madrid, it is a typical style in Spain in which there is a square in the center and it is kinda closed by buildings as a rectangle or square. Inside you can find many restaurants with outdoor seating but also benches for people to sit and relax. Of course all restaurants were full and not a single place to sit on a friday night.
