Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Decided to check out the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum as they offered free entry to their permanent exhibition at a set time in the evening. Unfortunately we found that the employees weren't forthcoming with information and we also felt as though they did not want us there. Basically what you need to do is go to the service counter and request for the free ticket for entry. The lady at the counter was unfriendly and handled our belongings roughly. Thankfully, there was at least one professional employee who handed us our entry ticket and thankfully was the one whom returned our belongings from their storage area. If you are interested in some local based art and have 30 minutes to spare, it is not such a bad idea for a quick visit.

Museum was really quiet when we visited (sunday in August). Art is very divers and really outstanding. Staff is nice and helpfull. Only downside is that the information next to the paintings and art is only in Spanish and Bask (google translate really helps).

Renovation work going on which is fair enough but the limited space of gallery rooms open were terrible. On one whole part of the lower floor literally about 7 of 12 rooms were filled with no art just big white inflatable bags that you need to walk past - I’m guessing it’s art, but after the 2nd or 3rd room of these, you really don’t care.
And you need to get a printed ticket from the reception, even thought visiting the museum was free - strange!

A good hour spent wandering around here. Placed beside a lovely park so you can spend a bit if time in the area. There is a cafe attached. Very few seats in the exhibit halls but some outside. Worth picking up the booklet to explain the concept behind their A-Z of art.

We stumbled across this museum without planning a visit in advance and were so glad we did. The galleries were well curated and it made for a very pleasant wander on a Monday afternoon. At the time of our visit the museum was undergoing renovation works and it looks like it will be much extended when they are complete. For the time being the museum is free although we would happily have paid and there is plenty to see and a good variety at that. The museum is set in a pleasant park and is not far from The Guggenheim, so it is definitely worth stopping by.

A bit better than my Guggenheim experience, I was also disappointed here.
A dearth of well known art or artists, some El Greco, a few Degas and Gauguin pieces, and a very nice Mary Cassatt, but not a single Renoir, Monet, Lautrec, Van Gogh, or Manet in sight. I love the impressionists and neo-impressionists as well as Rembrandt and a few others, so I was quite bored.
The map they gave me had little information and was totally useless, so I had to explore on my own and it is possible that I missed some rooms or artworks. I hope so.
Not a big museum, it will take an hour or two at most, even if you like the collection they have on-hand.

This Fine Arts Museum is very enjoyable. You can see a few of each of Goya and el Greco, but most are local artists.
All pieces are arranged alphabetically, which at first I was skeptical, but turned out to augment my appreciation.
Seeing a Medieval painting, followed by a modern one, followed by a nice Renaissance one provided an exceptional contrast. Highly recommended.

This museum was the drop off point for the free shuttle ride into Bilboa from Getxo where our Oceania cruise ship was docked. From this museum, it was just a short walk to the Guggenheim Museum which made it much more convenient than using the Metro and getting off at the Moyua station. We didn't visit this museum as we had limited time to see the attractions in the old town and the Guggenheim Museum on the one day our cruise ship was in Bilboa.

We really enjoyed this relatively small museum which, however, boasts some excellent works including by Goya, Murillo, Gauguin, Zuloaga and a fantastic Sorolla. There is also a good modern collection which we found more accessible than the Guggenheim. The museum boasts a nice bar/cafe with outside seating and a good shop which enhanced our experience. Entry was free when we visited.

A great showcase for Basque artists as well as from all of Spain, including works by Goya, Zururban and Sorolla. There was also a special expo on restored art and how it was done, as well as an exhibit on Milton Glaser posters. Definitely worth a visit.

Hola, yozmiami

Hello, meliBari
The "Artean Pass" is a ticket for combined entrance to both the Guggenheim and the Fine Arts Museums.
Unfortunately, for logistical reasons, it's not possible to buy it online.
But it can be buyed at the the reception desk of both museums anytime, and also in several automated teller machines of the BBK bank throughout the city.
We hope this helps. For any other query or information, please feel free to ask again.
Thanks for your interest in our museum.
