We spent several hours enjoying the diverse collection of Spanish (El Greco), Basque and European art works from early Christian art to regional artists as well as contemporary artists. Just the right size for a cold rainy day.

The guggenheim is nice for the building and the amazing steel-circles exhibition. But the Bellas Artes tops the Guggenheim in art, for sure.

A couple of fine Goya portraits, but to me, overall, the collection seemed rather 'bitty'.

We had one free day in Bilbao, knew the Guggenheim wouldn't fill it and faced with torrential rain went to the Bellas Artes almost just to kill time - then could hardly tear ourselves away. Fantastic collection with many more significant pieces than I expected to find in a relatively small provincial city, well laid out, intelligently themed and just... More

There is really a lot to see here. In particiular there was an excellent Antonio Lopez exhibition when we went, but the earlier period sections repay a visit

Wonderful Emilio Lopez exposition. It's free on Wednesday. so don't get the combination Guggenheim/ Bellas Artes ticket. You won't need it if you plan to be in Bilbao on a Wednesday. Don't go to both museums on the same day. It will be too much to absorb !

A much better experience than the Guggenheim. Classic and not too expendive.

The audio guides did not work but you had to pay. Nice to have seats in the rooms to have a longer rest to enjoy the art work.

Whilst overshadowed by the Guggenheim Museum, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum is a great find and probably has twice as many artworks on show as it's near neighbour! The building itself has been skilfully adapted and the latest extension is stunning: allowing the first rank contemporary artworks to be beautifully displayed. Some of the early 20th century art is a... More
