Get there early for a truly memorable experience.
We visited San Sebastián aquarium just as it opened, on a Saturday in August, and we were the only people there! The main attraction is the Atlantic Ocean tank where you will have sharks swimming above your head- to experience this exclusively was incredible. But had we shared the experience with others, we also would have loved it. We would have liked a slightly bigger pacific area with tropical fish, but for us, this was a small part of a full day in San Sebastián and so we really enjoyed an hour here. You could spend longer, but our children zoomed through the first half which is a museum, as they were keen to find the fish. It is the best value aquarium we have been to. Our best tip is to get there as the doors open.

Perfect for a wet day in st Seb, even if it's busy
Our family of 4 recommend it! We have two kids age 14 and 11 and wanted something to do on a rainy day in st Sebastián. We spent hours in the aquarium and could have stayed longer. Even though it was busy as it was a wet day in feb, the flow of people was steady and all the little kids we saw loved it too. There was a huge variety of things to see and lots to learn about. I would have liked a tiny bit more I for on the tanks. Couldn't help but thing the big tank looked a little crowded but we are no experts. All in all a great visit.

Unique combination of maritime history and aquarium
This is unique place combining San Sebastian’s maritime history (the whaling industry, shipyards, selling anchovies on the street, the sea and trade) with a superb aquarium. The tanks are spacious and provide a great viewing platform of sharks, rays, eels, seahorses, starfish and octopus. Thoroughly absorbing and more than worth the entry fee.

    Perfect for a family afternoon
Very interesting visit including a part on the history of fishing, whaling, but also a beautiful aquarium allowing us to discover marine wildlife. I highly recommend!!

Ok place to spend an hour
Firstly, truth in advertising. This should be called maritime museum and aquarium. Secondly, the fish is stressed from overcrowded. Some fish looked sick, injured and over fed. Fish identification was spotty. There were some labels but not all. It would be nice to be able to go on the roof to see the bay.

The elevator didn't work and we weren't given the option to leave the girl's stroller somewhere. We had to climb several stairs with it without help.
No guides or staff are seen during the visit.
Tickets are expensive and cost the same as if you buy them in advance.
At the beginning of the visit, a museum of little interest to children.
Without further ado, removing the main fish tank, there are better ones in our country.

Half of the aquarium is more an aquatic museum, with models of ships and history about fishing and whaling.
I found the aquarium itself crowded in terms of the amount of fish in the pools. The two large sharks were swimming continously in circles. Not sure if there is standards but it looked definitely overpopulated. Also, despite the signs to not touch the glass, of course all the children did touch it, so some sort of officials walking around to enforce that would certainly help.
Fish seemed clearly stressed in some pools.

At the end of the port of Donosti is the Aqvarium, a building facing the sea with various heights. The visit begins with a plant of panels, models and historical explanations about the sea and fishing and then goes down to the best of the place: the various aquariums. Before entering them, take the opportunity to have an excellent view of the bay, the island of Santa Clara and Mount Igueldo. Interesting small aquariums, as long as other visitors who like to touch the crystals let you see them. The best - and most spectacular - is the tunnel between sharks, rays and other marine fauna that seem to be above you. With children an essential visit. With adults you miss a certain tranquility. The price for a family is exaggerated (€14 adults, students €10).

They treated us terrible. The porter closed the door on our nose and we came from a long way because it said that at 20:00 they closed and by the time we arrived it was already closed at 19:00. My daughters were very excited and they ruined our day because of their character and the wrong schedule. I don't recommend it.

Good morning,
Little visit to this aquarium in San Sebastian by the sea surrounded by very lively streets.
Finding a place is mission impossible. Come early to spend the day, by early afternoon all the parking lots are full.
So it’s an aquarium and a museum at the same time. We start the visit with a museum obviously based on the marine domain with models, explanations, it's informative. Then the aquarium part, with different aquariums, nothing new. You can take a toilet break, there are some in the aquarium part of the museum, I would like to point out that. Then there is the giant aquarium with big fish, sharks and of course the tunnel. So aquarium where there is nothing new but nice with beautiful views of the sea and the beach at the museum level. For 5 including 3 children we paid 42€. And at the exit small shop of course. You can eat an ice cream when you go out, there are 4 or 5 ice cream parlors.

In recent years, I have seen several aquariums, including the one in Monaco and the one in Paris at the Musée de l'Homme. That of San Sebastian was therefore next and suffice to say that I was surprised by the two levels of text explanation around the history of the sea in the city and in this country which could disorient children to whom we promised animals larger than life. You must therefore wait until the last part of the museum to access the aquarium with at the beginning small fish, sea urchins or others before seeing the very large aquarium where rays, very large fish and the main protagonist appear: the shark which is very imposing. Once again, we can see in a sort of 360 degree space the fish swimming above us - I think like some aquariums. I think it's worth it for that alone.

Avoid peak hours as children can sometimes be too numerous, noisy and turbulent.

The tour is on 3 floors. We start at the top with a beautiful view of the Concha: besides a whale skeleton, this part is a museum explaining in 4 languages, the history of the navy with reproductions of boats, nautical instruments, fishing utensils and a collection of Corals.
In the first: the history of San Sebastian and its development through fishing. The most impressive of course is the tunnel that allows you to see 360 degrees of beautiful species like sharks.
Finally on the ground floor many tropical aquariums and a mangrove.
Rate 14 €; 10 for seniors. An obvious educational interest. Count 1h30

This aquarium is worth a visit when in San Sebastián. We visited as a family with older teenagers.

The first section is a maritime museum providing information about the historical importance of the local area to ship building and the fishing industry. It shows the evolution of ships and ship building as exploration of the world expanded from Europe. There are cool dioramas of net fishing techniques and great info about the history of whaling.

We enjoyed information about pirates, privateering and some weaponry aboard old sailing ships!

In the lower levels is the aquarium which predominantly showcases marine life of this part of the world. Although there is a tropical tank with anemones, Nemo and Dory. With patience you can snap a pic of the three together!

There is an obligatory tunnel that goes under a large tank and the fish, sharks and rays swim above your head. We loved the octopus tank: the octopus in there was very active.

If you are used to seeing penguins, dolphins and seal shows at aquariums you might be disappointed.. but we felt this was a great fun and informative exhibit of local marine life and the marine history of the area.

This wasn't the largest or best aquarium I've ever seen, but it certainly is a very good one. There was a museum when you first entered with lots of replicas of ships. The aquarium is the floor below, and there are several tanks with interesting fish and sea animals. My favorite tank was the jellyfish tank ... they are always so relaxing to watch. We were there on a Saturday, and it was extremely busy with lots of kids.
