On my trip to the north of Spain I couldn't miss San Sebastian ,a ral jewel of the Basque country ,a fashionable summer resort at the beginning of the 20 th century .I really liked the ocher -gold building of the Town Hall ,erected in the 19 th century ,under the reign of the queen Maria Cristina as a casino .The building became the town hall when gambling was banned in the city .The Ayuntamiento is a few steps away from the famous la Concha beach and I spent nice moments of relaxation in the Alderli -Eder Gardens ,reflecting at the happy days of the old casino .I stood on a bench near the tamarind trees admiring the architecture of belle epoque .

Try to catch this lovely old building as darkness falls. it is beautifully illuminated and the colours change from night to night.

The City Hall calls a lot of attention because of its great architecture. Luis Aladren and Morales del los Ríos were the architects. It also has a very good location in the city, quite close to the La Concha Beach and the Alderdi-Eder Park.

A glorious building.. a former casino in the days when San Sebastian was the playground for the rich from Madrid (and Europe).
The outside makes an impression. There are some public areas accessible from an entrance at the back": you get a glimpse of the staircase and more elaborate rooms now used by the city adminstration.

For me the attraction of City Hall was to see the bullet holes on the walls of this building, left during the Spanish Civil War. The walls facing Herman Street were pocketed with small holes probably made from a machine gun. There is a sign at that point explaining how City Hall had been damaged. I was impressed with the size of City Hall. It's twin square towers at the front and many windows made it appear more like a palace than a public administrative building, but, then, it had once been a casino for the wealthy 19th century elite vacationing in San Sebastian along with the royalty during the summer months. Visitors will pass by this grand sandstone building, located near the harbor, on their way from the old town to the long seaside promenade leading to Miramar Palace.

like a lot of buildings in San Sebastian, this one has a character which adds to its attraction, the pockmarks from shells striking the building say more about its history that any amount of information plaques ever could, the damage was inflicted during the Spanish civil war, a sad but important reminder that even a beautiful city like this has had its share of bad times, but this has helped to shape the people into what they are today so some good can come from something so horrendous as civil war

The town hall and library is grand and faces a children's play area.
The play area is modern and inviting with tamarind trees and a backdrop of an amazing old carousel beautifully decorated.
La Concha beach is right close by as is the old city with its mass of bars and jatetxea.

It was impossible for us to miss this magnificent sandstone building near La Concha Beach. The massive structure overlooks the bay and forms part of the backdrop at the beach's Western edge. We approached the City Hall from La Concha promenade, and its ochre color seemed to glow in the intense sun. A nearby merry-go-round engulfed the structure with festive music and a park directly in front offered benches that allowed us to sit and gawk at the structure.
The 19th-century building features two Belle Epoque towers with a clock between them. Awnings shelter some of the windows. Steps lead to three large arched wooden entrance doors, but they were not open to the public. I was not surprised to learn that the building initially went up in 1897 to house a casino, not city government offices. That use began 50 years later.
Though the City Hall dominates the area, there are many other attractions in the vicinity. including the Old Town, the yacht harbor and an aquarium.

Its a beautiful building right near the water, loved the weird by beautiful trees on the plaza in front of the building and all the pinxtos places are around the corner.

It is an eye catching structure at the end of a park with a manicured garden comprising exotic palm trees and benches for people to relax avoiding the masses of beachcombers sunning on the sand.
