- SwimBikeRunWalkShropshire, United Kingdom409 contributionsDefinitely worth a visitWe went on the 46 bus from the hotel and wandered down the road. Walked through the gates and up the main vehicle entrance. You need to purchase your ticket from the kiosk near to the large carpark. Entry was 4€ each. Lots of interesting exhibitions - on architecture of Palma, famous residents of the palace/ prison/ castle. Amazing views so walk on up to the top. Hold on to your hats! Toilets are available as is the cafe near to the ticket kiosk. When we left we walked down a huge flight of steps (our friends claimed 453) so chose your entrance wisely! Definitely worth a visit.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 October 2023
- Bertie1224Northamptonshire, United Kingdom1,440 contributionsStunning viewsWe walked from central Palma. 40 mins and was an easy stroll and ended with a walk through the trees on the slopes and lots and lots of steps up to the castle. When we went it was free? Was a Sunday. There are things to see in the rooms but for me it was the views from the top terrace that make it worth the long climb. You can see back to Palma and the port. It’s worth the visit just for that let alone the history of the place and what the building has seen, heard and experienced. If you are able, take the walk from Palma. That’s part of the fun of city breaks. We then walked straight back down the steps and into the port. Excellent few hours.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 October 2023
- Maria S6 contributionsSpectacular views over PalmaIt was over 500 steps to climb up the hill from where we got off the local bus, but you can catch the tourist bus to the entrance if you prefer. It's cheap to go in, just 4 euros for adults. The museum has all the history of Palma, and the views are spectacular.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2023
- World TravellerEaling, United Kingdom529 contributionsViews 10 - Food & Drinks 0What a great visit we had strolling up the winding roads of Palma Marina all the way to the top of the castle. Took approximately 45 minutes walking at normal pace, no steps until you get to the castle. If you prefer, you could get a tourist "hop on hop off" bus to the top. This stops outside castle entrance or local bus, but this only goes partial way up the hill, and you then have a bit of a way to walk. If you're fit and able, then stroll up to the castle from the Marina. Think of the exercise. Once you get to the top, buy your tickets, which are €4.00 each. Sadly, there is absolutely no opportunity to buy a drink of any kind, no tea, no coffee, no water. Thankfully, they have a toilet, but that's it. The views are amazing. It is the best opportunity to get your scenery views of Palma Marina from here. The castle is open every day, 10 am. - 6 p.m., but it's closed on Mondays.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 November 2023
- David CLondon, United Kingdom376 contributionsHistoric CastleCastle was completed in 1311 and you can walk round many parts of the historic building. There are numerous informative displays about the castle and the history and development of Palma and Mallorca. Entry cost is low €2 for pensioners like us but free on Sundays. A number of busses (lines 4, 20 and 47) go from the city centre stopping at Gomila with a walk uphill by road then about 500 steps to castle entrance. Great views from the ramparts too.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 December 2023
- Thomas VOakland, California17,757 contributionsCastle on the Hill With ViewsThis huge castle looms over town and cannot be missed from the harbor area. It is probably the most noted landmark. You can do a tour or just climb the hill to take a look, which is what we did. A tough climb, but the view of the harbor below was worth the effort.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 February 2024
- dubzOxford, United Kingdom272 contributionsLovely place to visit.Stunning views of Palma bay. We got there via the city sightseeing hop on/off bus. You get your entry ticket with your bus ticket ( its cheaper ) Interesting place inside, lots of things to read about the castle and Palma's history through the ages. Look at all the "graffiti" on the walls, lots of the walls having etching on them from down the years. Heard a Sardinian Warbler in the grounds, so was happy with that!. When we went, the cafe and toilets outside the castle grounds were closed (Feb), but toilets open on the inside.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 February 2024
- PhiljmlLondon, United Kingdom93 contributionsBeautiful castle & surroundsLovely old castles with rooms to visit showing artefacts from its history. You can walk on the top tier and see spectacular views of the harbour, gardens, ocean liners below. More to see than you expect. Access is either walk up a steep hill to the castle or catching a sight seeing bus that takes you to the entrance. Entrance fee included in city seeing price. They run every half hour. Well worth a visit for the culture vultures out there.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 March 2024
- WhitneyMcqToronto, Canada60 contributionsA great, quick stop while at port.Worth the climb (lots of steps to get to top) and cost to see such a historic and unique castle. Kids under 13 were free and my teens only 2 euro. We spent about 40 minutes loookong around and took great photos of the coast line. We walked from cruise port and it took about 35 minVisited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 March 2024
- Weirymum70 contributionsWell worth a visitBit of a hike up to the Castell and we found it wasn't very well signposted - particularly through the wooded area. No shop or cafe at the top so take water. Well worth it though as the Castell is really interesting, well kept and has amazing views of Palma.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 March 2024

Nice castle to visit! Free admission to Americans. Use the free audio guide to give you more in depth information. The biggest negative is no taxis in this area….We waited over 30 minutes and no taxis come up here. Suggest not to come without a way to get back to your hotel.

I'm happy we were able to go to Belver Castle! We chose to do it on foot and walked through a great park with an old Catholic church. There is plenty of parking for visitors with cars, so it's no problem to go by car either.
The castle itself is well preserved, and there were even renovations being done in places. The exhibition is rich and well described. I recommend following the arrows as you enter to follow the chronology in history and enjoy and inform yourself as much as possible. After touring the museum area, you will go up to the roof of the castle where a great 360 degree view awaits you - you can see all of Palma and the surrounding area and of course the sea.
P.S. While we were there there was a simulated emergency and the staff within 2-3 minutes , without panic, emptied the castle of visitors and workers. So you can also be sure of the preparedness of the staff working in the museum.
Highly recommended!

If you would like to have a one millone view over the city of palma you have to go there. The castle itself it not so special but the view is amazing. You can go there by car or take a 30min walk from the city center. Entrance is 4 euro. There is also a café there to have a drink.

An interesting drive through palma brings you to this castle after a bendy trip up the road to the top of the hill.
The castle is quite spectacular, and we were lucky that on the day we went it was free entry. the museum inside the castle is well worth the time spent investigating it thoroughly, it traces the roots of mallorca from 2000 B.C through to modern days and is very interesting.
The views from the castle roof however are why most people will come here and they are majestic even if the day is cloudy

Just outside Palma, you can walk, drive or get the bus to Castell de Bellver. There is a large car park and the entry fee for the castle is 4 Euros an adult and 2 Euros for a pensioner. The castle is circular and inside there is a wonderful open arched area with balconies which reminded me of the Globe in London and if you climb the stairs to the top you will be rewarded with fantastic views of Palma and the marina.

We were very surprised by how well preserved and enjoyable this attraction was. After the hike up the hill we entered the main part of the castle. With its circular construction and many arches on the upper level it is a visual delight. There are several museums, one of which tells the story of Palma through interesting multilingual displays. Once you reach the roof you can enjoy 360 degree panoramas of the area, including fantastic views towards the cathedral.
At €4 pp this is a very good value attraction. Buses 46 and 47 from/to Palma serve the castle, but be aware you either have to walk up about 500 steps from Place Gomila or long slopes from other bus stops. There is parking for cars, a few taxi ranks (but no taxis), decent toilets. When we visited in February there was no cafe and no option to buy food or drink on the site.

Please be aware that at the time of writing (late October 2021) the cafe at the castle is closed. There is nowhere to buy a drink (or even sit down!) at all. If you’ve just climbed nearly 500 steps to get here you are going to regret not bringing a drink with you!
Spectacular views but it was a thirsty trip!

Highly interesting castle—one of only 2 or 3 round castles in Europe. Not necessarily free to Americans, but it is free to everyone on Sundays. King James II had it built and used it as a residence. These days it contains a really nice museum of history. You get great info about the Talaiot (Bronze Age people) of prehistoric times and the Arab occupation. They have displays of ancient and Medieval art pieces; and they depict the use of the castle as a military base and a prison. If you get lucky you can attend a musical performance in the open air rotunda. Views over the city and the Mediterranean are terrific. Definitely a must-see; and if you have the time you can stroll through the wooded grounds.

Its only 2 Euros for seniors to visit this interesting castle. The car park is quite small but free. Or you can use the Hop on Hop Off tourist busses.
Unfortunately, the café was closed when we visited and there were no little shops open inside the castle this time around.
But the views from the top are worth the effort of getting there.

My guide book says that there are guided tours in English which leave at 11am Tues-Sat but the website only mentions a guided tour in Catalan which leaves at 11:00 and Spanish at 12:30. Can anyone confirm the English tours?
Written 26 September 2019
Did not notice any signs for a guided tour, but then there is very little information points and what there is has no English translation. This doesn’t stop the enjoyment of appreciating the castle and views but some guide to its history would be nice.

How long does it take to walk back down into Palma from the Castle?
Written 24 July 2019
It takes about 40 minutes. It’s a very pleasant walk. Enjoy!
Written 25 July 2019
Steps seem to feaure in a lot of reviews. Will a taxi go right up to the Castle or will there be steps to climb from where it would drop me?
Written 24 July 2019
A taxi can take you right up to the castle. Without taking any steps, you can stay at the road level and see views out across Palma and the Mediterranean. You can also look up at the castle. However, yes to truly enjoy the castle, to go inside and even (when inside) to go to the top of the castle, climbing steps is necessary. Perhaps 25 -30 steps up rock stairs. I am sorry, but I did not see anywhere that would make getting up to and inside the castle easily wheelchair accessible.
Written 25 July 2019
How many steps up from the very bottom please, we caught No3 bus but was a long hike up what seemed like hundreds of steps in torrential rain. Tourist info office didn't tell us that fact!!!
